Re: Melbourne - Suberbs

Seaford has a great beach. but that train journey is a nightmare - incredibly busy to the point that it's free to travel on the train if you arrive at your destination before 7am....

no fun...

As suggested, the Hay's survey does seem on the ball.

Re: Should my salary be mentioned in reference letter?

Tell them you are the Postmaster General, used to be a Brain Surgeon, and also secretly own Microsoft, although you let Ballmer and Gates have all the girls.

Add to this you earn £12Bn per annum,...

Re: Did you move to Oz without visiting?

I didn't visit first and it was a big mistake. Think about it - you're moving 11,000 miles based on anecdotal evidence. I have a friend who bought a place in Bulgaria because it was only £16,000....

Re: medicare and private health insurance

All good information here. My experience is for a 457 your company is responsible for ensuring you have private medical insurance. However I have to pay the insurance and provide proof (the insurance...

Re: Servi-ppartments....info needed

I'm staying at the Quest serviced appartments on Flinders Lane, right in the CBD. Quite good - been here for 4 months!

Think the official price for a 2 bed is around $350 a day, but long term I...

Re: Company cars and tax

Difficult one, I've just been through it myself. I'm guessing your talking about a novated lease, and 10K is $10k rather than £10k.

You're probably talking about a small car such as a Honda Jazz...

Re: Medibank any good?

Correct - we're on a 457 and Medicare paid 40% of the cost of our GP visits. We're a family of 3 with Medibank ($386 a month) and the 2-month wait hadn't completed. My 5-year old son had a bad cough...

Re: If you could turn back time.........

1) Not pushing the company for more money - I could have gotten another $7000 onto my salary.
2) Should have come over for 5 weeks on my own beforehand and then made the decision to move.
3) Most...

Re: PS3 or WII

As mentioned you might want to consider the Xbox 360 - the Australian and UK version is the same so you can use UK games on an Australian machine.

However, the real winner is buying UK games...

Don't forget the hidden ORC (on-road costs) - count on an extra 10% of the stated value.

Re: What is the Maximum weight of 1 case with Singapore Airlines?

Re: 457 visa and private medical insurance
