Has anyone with a Civil engineering degree migrated down under, and did you need experience (how many years)?

He had to prove he has been working in the same job (civil engineering) for 3 out of the last 4 years to satisfy the requirements for the 175 permanent residency visa.
Hope this helps,

How do universities get away with offering non-accredited degrees, I wonder?
Anway, if it's not accredited for CEng purposes by EC-UK then it doesn't come under the Washington Accord and your options are:
1. Do a Competency Demostration Report (CDR) to get skill assessed by IEAUST as a professional engineer; or
2. See if your degree is accredited for IEng purposes, in which case you might be able to get a skill assessment as an Engineering Technologist under the Sydney Accord.
3. Failing that, can you do a CDR to get an Engineering Technologist skill assessment?
4. If you're applying sponsored and a 50 point skill assessment is enough then you could get this from Vetassess but you would still need to show that your work experience was at a "skilled" level.

my Husband did the following - after 20 yrs in the industry! Competency Demostration Report (CDR) - It was a lot of paperwork - but they are crying out for civ engs. at the moment - still not prepared to pay top$ though -
maybe you should look for a job & a company could sponser you? - do know that they are bringing in engineers from india and phillipines on 'bargin' wages - totally unfair.

From: Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Thats down and to the right from UK.

Would expect you'd get an offer of a 457 quite quickly if you sent your CV to the following:
BHP Billiton and the other mines
Queensland Rail
RailCorp

We got our 136 perm res visa in May 2006. I got it on the back of my degree in Civil Engineering but I'd never worked a single day as a Civil Engineer. I didn't seem to matter. I had a BEng from Plymouth Uni that was on the Washington Accord accredited list.
hope this helps.
