I have been told Medibank Private is one of the best to go for, but haven't had any experience of it myself

Hi,
Am with Medibank Private but (touch wood) haven't had to use them yet.
I have found their premium increases a bit steep lately though - had a 10% increase earlier this year from them (unless this is a symptom of the industry in general).

I've had an approximate online quote of $200 (pm) for Blue Ribbon hospital only (comprehensive cover) and we are a family of three (2 adults and one 2 year old). Does that compare well with other insurers? The excess seems steep though ($500 for a level 2).
I do like the fact that dependant children do not incur any excess.

Re: Medibank any good?
get dental cover too
we use them - we are not out of pocket after the tax rebate for high earners its costing about 600$/year compared to not having it. That is easily recoverable in dental fees.
they are good at what they do - paying for things !

You've got to have the extras cover. In my opinion the hospital cover is pretty useless, apart from keeping your tax bill down but the extras (like dentist, optician, physio) is the one you'll be claiming most on. It's certainly the case in our house.
BTW I did loads or research and ended up very confused so I went with Medibank as they were the biggest.

We have Medibank Private Advantage Plus.
Worth it ? Yes.
Dental cover, no limits and 2 month waiting period from cover. Extras are good annual limits such as contact lenses, opticalm physio and so on.
All in all they wont make a huge amount from me after I've claimed this year for those alone.

Re: Medibank any good?
The govt setup some website for you to compare side-by-side the health cover provided by all the ocmpanies - wasnt it "ichoose" or "iselect" or i-select or something... it was govt audited so it had to be fair
sometimes you gotta love the aussie govt for things like that they do have these occasional flashes of brilliance.
I have a vague Idea that ours costs 230$/mth after the tax rebate and 1%loading rebate. For family of 4 with lots of extras cover [ like glasses frames, dental, etc ] It might even be 230$/Qtr but I thin kthats a bit low

I don't think i-select is govenment, and it only has a limited range of funds, but its a good place to start. I guess they're on commission from the funds.

We're with medibank too and may be using it soon too if my son's finger doesn't get better !
Orthodontics work - do you know that some dentists are trained to provide this? before we left NZ our dentist gave me a list of orthdontic dentists in the Gold Coast, but I've yet to compare the costs with those charged by full time orthodontists.
I was reading about medicare this morning and it looks like migrants on temp visas from the UK are able to apply for a medicare card under reciprocal healthcare arrangements, doesn't cover you for everything but worth looking into.
