Re: Sydney with kids - fly or drive?

That is a good hotel with kids, we are in Sydney but when the kids were younger used to have a "staycation" in the city occasionally. Get the B Line bus from Wynyard to Palm Beach, takes a while but...

Re: A good GP and a good gynecolog in Hornsby?

I'm in Turramurra so not far from you, and I just use Balmoral Street Medical Centre in Hornsby. Dr Karen Oswald is fantastic, but very popular, so if you just walk in you are unlikely to see her but...

Re: can my daughter get admission in primary school in age of 4 ?

It might not be relevant to you, but be aware that in NSW if you are on a 457 visa you will pay for public schooling, no matter what age they are when they start!

Re: Ear piercing

I was going to give you a recommendation then realized you're in Perth :)

Most beauty salons will do them for you. Some offer the option of having both ears done at the same time which prevents...

Re: What punishment would you expect from a school?

I would have called the police when it was clear the school wasn't going to do much. The boys are 13, it was assault. Maybe the parents will be a little less relaxed when they have the police on...

Re: Sydney Cost of Living?

Expect it to be eye wateringly expensive then you won't be shocked :D

Seriously though, you are sensible doing your homework. DH works with a lot of people who come over on 457s then spend their...

Re: Renting with dogs

It will really depend on the state of the rental market when you arrive. Having dogs (especially large ones) will generally put you at a disadvantage over people without, but of course it is not...

Re: What you wished you had brought with you

Agree with Dreamy, if you are coming to Sydney (or Melbourne) you definitely need coats, jumpers etc. I rather stupidly left all mine behind and really regretted it (and have not managed to replace...

Re: 16 year old has decided to stay behind

I wouldn't give him the option personally. You say that you truly believe that coming to Oz would be the best thing for his future - for another couple of years he is still the child and you are the...

Re: GCSE Equivilent in Australia

You will get very different answers if you google because the different States and Territories all have different education systems and exams.

Re: Schooling

Remember that money goes to the government, not the school, so you will still be expected to pay whatever fee the school sets for the year for "extras" (some of which you would consider to be basics,...

Last month I left Aus on my Australian passport and entered Ireland on my Irish. I left Ireland on my Irish passport and entered Australia with my Australian one. I did wonder about the fact that you...

Re: Qantas or Etihad?

I've just done a trip home from Oz to Dublin with Etihad. They are code sharing with Virgin so my top tip would be to make sure that you fly from Abu Dhabi to Sydney on a Virgin flight (they were...

Re: Do i move teenager to OZ or not??

Only you can answer that question really - looks like you've been here before? For what it's worth my eldest turned 14 just after we arrived and it has been the best thing that ever happened to him....

Re: graphic/web designer job Sydney

I don't mean to be brutal, but I really wouldn't bother applying for anything until you are here. You are not exactly a great proposition for employers in a highly desirable job sector - a working...

Re: Do NSW have "Xmas Sales" like UK??

Yes, there are good sales but you also need to remember to haggle. It's very un-English and feels a bit funny at first but you can usually get at least 10% off most things, more if you are bundling...

Re: Sydney Suburbs

I think moving area becomes more difficult when you have school age children Paddyo - if I remember correctly you have one starting/just started school so not the end of the world if you have to...

Re: Apartments in Sydney

Hi Karen. You are going to struggle with the pet friendly part I'm afraid, especially in an apartment. There are currently low vacancy rates around here which basically means that when apartment is...

Re: anyone on the Upper North Shore-Sydney

Hi Am111. You won't be able to get a long term lease from outside the country - I presume you have short term accommodation sorted so you just need to get onto it as soon as you arrive. Unfortunately...

I can do the 14th (the 9th is last day of school for us with a million things going on so it's not an option I'm afraid). What about the good old Tav?

Re: Buying second hand car in Sydney

We bought our second hand Honda CRV from Paul Patterson Motors on Parramatta Road. Still going strong after 3 1/2 years, I think we got a good deal (was very surprised to pay stamp duty buying a car...

Re: Fantasticfurniture...anyone used them?

When are you coming? There are really good sales around June/July (end of financial year) and after Christmas. We got some good quality furniture seriously discounted by looking at the right time. If...
