Hi everyone,
I will make this short and sweet.

I’m moving from UK to Sydney on 01 April 2011 on a 12 months working holiday visa.
I would like to find a web/graphic design job.
Should I start to apply now online and make phone calls even though I’m not in Sydney yet?
Any tips, suggestions, contacts would be much appreciated.

Here are my specs;
- BA in graphic design
- 3 years professional experience

I don't mean to be brutal, but I really wouldn't bother applying for anything until you are here. You are not exactly a great proposition for employers in a highly desirable job sector - a working holiday visa allows you to do some work to supplement your holiday funds, but the emphasis is on the holiday bit and there are limits to how much work you can do. Most good jobs will require you to have PR. Tbh even if you had PR on arrival most Australian companies/agencies won't even bother replying to overseas enquiries.

Having said that, it is not impossible to get work once you are here, and people do manage to get find employers who will eventually sponsor them. If you are exceptionally good at what you do you might get lucky but unless you have a lot of money behind you I would strongly suggest that you are realistic and prepared to accept anything that comes your way. Sydney is a very contact driven city so be nice to EVERYONE and you might eventually meet someone who's brother's girlfriend's ex works in the right place
