Re: It's the simple things in life!

I hang my head in shame:o I'm a bit scratchy this morning - had some irritating news.

I thought we were talking about what we found likeable about moving to NZ, not Croydon.
I also wonder how...

Re: It's the simple things in life!

You're right. Even though it gave me a good feeling, it's a rubbish post and I'm wrong as usual. Better delete it.

Re: It's the simple things in life!

I liked the fact that, within six months of arriving in NZ, I could walk the main street of the capital city and half a dozen passers-by would say "G'day, Pete." Try that in London or any UK city:D

Re: NZ Olympics

That's a worry:ohmy:
Hydrogen Sulphide (what gives Rotorua it's distinctive aroma) is lethal in high concentrations. You can only smell it at relatively low concentrations and as it rises, the...

Re: Whats the one thing about NZ

Yep. We have a 'Tree in a Hurry' (Virgilia Oroboides) in the garden which carries great bunches of pink blossom in the spring and the Rosellas flock into it and rip the blooms apart to get the seeds...

Re: Whats the one thing about NZ

My old Dad, now long gone, was a great bird watcher (or 'twitcher'). He would have loved to see some of the varieties we have here - especially the Tui, Rosellas and Fantails.

Re: Argh ! Pesky sandflies.

Vitamin B intake is supposed to help keep them away. Once bitten, tea tree oil helps relieve and so does good old malt vinegar if you don't mind smelling like a chippie.:D

Re: Should NZ copy Britain in immigration rules ?

As far as I am aware, Bulgarians also need a work permit for the UK (with some types of jobs excepted). At present these permits last up to 5 years.

Unlike NZ, Bulgaria is now an EU member state...

Re: New Zealand Post

It will get worse when NZ Post reduce to only three deliveries a week as threatened. They'll be trying to cram more mail per delivery into boxes.

Only solution I can think of is a larger, lockable...

Re: Tell us your best bits

Well, I hate to sound bigheaded, but it used to be my looks in general.

When SWMBO first took me home to meet her parents her Mum took her to one side and said, "Ooh! Doesn't he look like Clint...

Re: At last the drink drive limit has been lowered

I'm in agreement about zero tolerance for drinking and driving but I'm not sure it will do much to reduce NZ's road accident rate if that's the intention.

On other threads we have (often jokingly)...

Re: Anyone else find this :(

It depends a lot on how close you were before you made the move. If not too close, then the distance makes it easier to cut contact altogether.
If you were close, sometimes people don't like to...

Re: One for the ladies - Contraception sort of (you have been warned)

Couldn't resist a sticky beak at this post - the title intrigued me. I thought you might like a smile so here's our story (guaranteed true).

My wife hales from Hemel Hempstead in Hertfordshire and...

Re: Vacuum cleaners ! :-(

All you Dyson fans surprise me. We recently replaced our old bag type cleaner and wanted a bagless. SWMBO insisted I went along with her to buy and we looked at half a dozen different bagless types....

Re: Garden Lawns and Turf

I have to be careful shampooing these days as I can't afford to lose any more.
Reminds me of the old song 'I'm going to wash that hair right out of this man.' (Or something like that.)

Sorry,...

Re: What do you wish you'd shipped over..

Decent power tools.
For example, you can pick up a Makita 18V Li-ion cordless drill with 2 batteries in the UK for around GBP130.00 (approx. NZ$300.00). Price here, NZ$480.00. This is pretty much...
