Vacuum cleaners ! :-(

Vacuum cleaners ! :-(
My vacuum cleaner has packed up and fallen to bits - literally. It needs a new foot and a hose with the control bit.
I've worked out that at $350, it is just not worth the cost of buying new parts for the thing.
Has anyone bought a Shark Navigator please?
We don't have mega $$ for a Miele or similar but I do need something that can cope with pet hair and the like.
thanks

Have you tried Trademe for the parts? Our Miele had a broken plastic elbow and it going to cost $180 for a new part. I bought the same model Miele (it was broken) and salvaged the parts for $40.

How much is the Shark Navigator? I bought a Miele for $400 + something and it's fantastic. It's not their cat and dog model but it deals with pet hair fine. Had it about 4 years and never any problems with it, still picks up brilliantly. They don't often go on sale but I think they're worth the money (especially compared to the two $200-ish vacuums I had previously bought which were both pretty useless within about a year).

I have heard good things about Miele vacuums.
Mine was an Electrolux bagless twinclean. Great on pick up but a huge mistake . Heavy and a bad design. Very awkward for stairs.

My friend bought a good old Henry on Amazon.uk- was cheap even with shipping. I bought one on Amazon while in UK- it's somewhere near China right now- cost me about £100.

I bought a proper upright Bissell a few months ago that is very good.
Non of that dragging a little thing around behind you nonsense for me, I like a man sized Hoover.
Its worth shopping around as the price varies wildly from shop to shop.
I've seen it at $400 in some but I paid around 260 for it after shopping around in Hams.
It has all the tools, a pet hair thingy on the front, a headlight so I can vacuum in the dark and it leaves
fabulous "I've just been hovered" stripes on my carpet. it even comes with a spare belt.
I read a couple of reports from people who said it vibrated a lot but I have no issues with mine at all and I use it a lot cos I like hoovering

Don't you go treading all that messy Death Star dust in here, get your shoes off and leave em at the door

I bought a 2400w bagless Goldair one about 5 years ago and it's worked and worked, it was about $120 on special I think.

My husband actually asked me where the hoover lives last weekend ... we've been living here for >8 weeks, FFS!

You are aware though that the duration of your life will be finite and is not significantly changed by hoovering?
To be fair though, counterbalancing my argument, happy wife = happy life.

Nobody has mentioned a Dyson. I don't know what the prices are like in NZ (they're not exactly cheap in the US compared to others that look superficially similar), but our Dyson is simply the best vacuum cleaner we have ever used.
The first time you use it on your carpets you will be disturbed at what it sucks out of the carpet. The first pass over the carpet will pick up all and any hairs (human or animal), other fluff and a lot of dust. If you go back a second time it will pull more fluff and dust. By the third pass, it will be sucking up pure dust, like a fine grey paste.... It's all those dead skin flakes that have been clogging your carpet!
We have three cats and would not be without our Dyson, we've had it for five or six years. And if anything happened to it we would absolutely certainly buy another, without a shadow of a doubt.
BTW Just to be clear, I neither own Dyson shares, nor am I Dyson salesman!
