When we left oz in 06 I just got my child (born in oz) a british passport, immigration held us up at the airport questioning why he didn't have an aus passport but eventually (with minutes to spare!)...

A lot of agencies offer 3 month leases but the standard seems to be 6 months.
As for breaking your lease, we are doing that at the moment, basically yes you can but you have to keep paying rent...
