Partner has been offered $65k - he's an experienced urban architect. When I was on a working holiday in Oz I was on $35k as a chef, it was managable but when I am out there again, I will be looking for a higher salary. $35 was ok but I was renting and not paying a mortgage. Hope that helps.

That's individual - joint income $160k to $200K is good to live on and save for youe retirement.

I think 65k on west cost is acceptable, you don't tend to earn as much on the west coast to the east coast - that's what I've been told anyway.
