Thanks for that link Mandy. I shall watch this thread carefully. We were planning to self insure, but I wasn't aware that medicare does not cover hospital stay (hospital acco, theater fees etc etc)....

I think you should have your PR first. Once you've landed on your PR, Immigration then sends the info to medicare (usually about 10 days).
