It would be a miracle if at some stage you didn't have doubts about going. I know I have many times, but the one compelling reason to go through with it as people have already said, and the one thing that none of the "trolls" can argue with, is that if you don't try it you'll never know if it could have worked. In 30 years you might still be wondering, and that would be really tough. Generally, I think you regret far more the things you didn't do than the things you did.
There's been a lot of talk recently about the weakness of the pound, and falling house prices etc, and I can understand how all the negative stuff can start to put people off, but think about what really excited you about the idea right at the beginning. Personally, I'm not going to Oz because I want to be a dollar millionaire, or lie on the beach all day. Ironically the only people on here who talk about those things are the people who slag off Australia all the time. Maybe that's why they went, but I think the rest of us have given it a lot more thought than that. I'm going because life is short , the world is a huge place and I want to experience a bit more of it than this little island before I pop my clogs. I figure that if you're no worse off than you are in the UK, then you're winning.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Spot on Andy. Summed up my thoughts perfectly
To be honest I think if you do not have 2nd thoughts and major worries then you would be taking the move too lightly
We also had our "Im not going" crisis - lasted several months. Over it now. Went over why we wanted to move and what was keeping us in UK.
Still have major wobbles but only last a night. Mostly triggered by this site I think.
Regards
Bob

Exactly our feelings. Having lived and worked abroad before, the world seems a smaller place and you realise how much there is still to see. We're not going there feeling that this will necessarily be 'forever'. It may well be, but even if it's only for a few years, it will be an experience no one can take away from you.
Heard this quote somewhere:
Fear is temporary, regret is permanent

agree totally with suffolkdiva going for the experience maybe permanent maybe not i would rather go and risk failure than 5 years down the line regreting the once in a lifetime chance you have been given, its better to burn out than to fade away

Andy,
very well put, do you think that maybe its because we are so reserved as brits that we feel that letting loose is not in our nature.
GO FOR IT WHILE YOU STILL CAN !!!!!!!!!!
Cheers

Some people are risking lots of money and stress for a change that will be a flop for something like half of the people who go and if they are not sure now, it will only get worse. If they are keen but scared, then OK, they may be fine. If they are going off it before leaving, my advice is make the best of life in the UK. Move to somewhere else, try a new job there, etc. You do not have to fly to the other side of the world to start a new life.

Think about this most of the whingers and trolls are actually living in Australia, and they slag if off continuously.
They also CLAIM to be successfull, so my reasoning is if these people are SO successfull why do they stay in Australia, a country which they so dislike.
If these people are from UK they would have no problems whatsoever going back their on the next flight. You've got to ask yourself WHY don't they.
Could it be they REALLY enjoy it but for some perverted reason want to destroy other peoples dreams.
I'll let you draw your own conclusions.

People can be held prisoner by the economy. The complainers are the ones in OZ, you are right. So they know most about it and do not take the student on holiday attitude that you take. You are not bothered either way and can go back to mum's in England when the adventure is all over. Others can't and have a lot more to lose.

But these whingers claim the have made a success of it. So they are either lying about being successfull or lying about their life down here.
I don't know which is true but they cannot have it both ways.

Maybe what I need is more of those people who have good living experience in Oz to post some good news on this forum. Oh well, maybe that's exactly the reason why they don't come to this forum.

And I thought I was the only odd one, who was having serious second thoughts!
We are very happy here, have a good quality of life at the moment. We have shortened our working hours and spending more time with the kids.
Dubai is a wonderful place, soon it will be possible to stay here on long term residence visas (as expats, we are now allowed to invest in property). Once the residency laws, property laws are clearer, there is no doubt we will continue to live in Dubai.
Moreover we are still young (35), and it would be stupid to give up well paying jobs to semi retire in Australia and having to live mostly of our savings.
We may apply again when we turn 40 - and then see what happens.
Cheers everyone. Hope you are all happy with whatever decision you finally make
