Aussies second-worst for rubbish
Dirty buggers them Aussies must be all them fast food wrappers and lack of fresh food?
AUSTRALIANS are among the developed world's most prolific household garbage generators, second only to those of the US.
The average Australian contributes 1.1 tonnes of solid rubbish to our landfills each year and 690kg of domestic and household waste compared to the OECD average of 500kg.
Despite great successes in kerbside recycling, to which 80 per cent of households contribute, most people still throw into the bin hazardous waste such as garden fertilisers and batteries.
Worse still, the country harbours about 3200 cubic metres of low-level and short-lived intermediate radioactive waste. Also, municipal landfills are unlined, which means any hazardous waste may leach into groundwater or the air.

Junk2
Just thought I`d add this to the list, seeing as how "Junk" seems to have disappeared...
Talking of junk, and to ensure that this post doesn`t get deleted, here is some useful information for those emigrating to Queensland:
We have wheelie bins here. Two. One with a green lid is for normal, smelly, gross stuff and the one with a yellow lid is for putting all your empty wine and beer in (recyclables).
Yellows get emptied once a fortnight, green once a week - and boy do they hum after a couple of days in the summer!!!

NSW - North Sydney, I have three wheelie bin types,
one gross normal stuff - emptied once a week
one cardbard/paper - every two weeks
one garden rubbish - every two weeks, alternate to cardboard
Plastic bottles and glass box - every two weeks I think
Garden one is round and big but with grass cutting and trimmings of the bush plants easy to fill in two weeks.
Council also do free pick up of other large items every now and again, monthly or booked depending on which area you live in. This proved a great thing in the last couple of weeks as we are unpacking for real and getting rid of boxes etc.
Our Garden has been left in an unaltered state for the last couple of years and is in dire need of some major refurbishment - just got a quote for $1800 which we are taking up for the whole place to be pruned / trimmed and cut back and certain trees cut down etc (and take away some serious junk left by the previous people). Lots and lots of little adds in local freebies to take away garden rubbish (in my case it includes large swings and poles and large mounds of rotting wood and huge old glass windows!!!!!).
Basically if there is a job out there you do not like someone seems to be advertising a service for it. I do not advocate paying for everything - would cost you a fortune, but I like the idea of someone else washing my bins!!!
Cheers

Or even dye your carpet. I couldn't believe it when I saw the advert or TV, the person spilling the red wine on the white carpet. The "specialists" came round and spray dyed the carpet green! I thought it was a joke at first.
