I'll be starting work about a month after getting there. I expected to start almost immediately but they've given me a start date of 7th May - very handy. It means I've got a month to sort out stuff...

We flew with Qantas a year ago for our validation trip. Our daughter had just turned one, and I must say that Qantas were superb. They did everything they could to help - although there was a mix up...

Re: Validation trip in April

I would advise opening a bank account, as it makes things easier when you want to transfer funds through companies like HIFX. I certainly found it useful, having opened an account on our validation...

Re: Telling parents your leaving

I really can't understand why some people have this problem with their families. It's astonishing to me that parents would offer anything but heartfelt support for such a venture. My parents have...

Re: is it worth it

A good question. One, I suppose that can't be answered until you actually do it.

I'll be making the move within the next couple of months and I can tell you, the further on in the process you...

Re: VISA application whilst pregnant

A similar thing happened to us: our application had been lodged and we were awaiting medicals etc when my wife fell pregnant. I advised our agent who told us that if medicals were requested before...

Re: Migration agents to assist with RPL

Hi Dean

I used an agent called OE Visas, based in Edinburgh (even though I live in London).
I'm in IT (software development) and I thought I would have to do the RPL but happily avoided it - OE...

Re: Wooden things

To be honest, I don't know what the definition of 'treated' is - so I couldn't say for sure.
You will, no doubt, be getting quotes from international removal companies. They send a rep round to have...

Re: Wooden things

Martin

What's your profession? I'm in IT and am heading to Perth roughly the same time as you and I was wondering how you managed to get a job interview so far ahead of travelling. I've been...

Re: Shipping quotes - now a decision to make...

We went with Doree Bonner - in our case the volume estimate was absolutely spot-on and much of what we had sent was packed away so wasn't visible when they came to give us the quote.

Hasn't...

Re: Getting Doctors notes to take to Oz!

I don't know about needing the information, but I think it would be useful to have immunisation records for kids. We have a little girl (just coming up to 2 years old) so If our doctor wants to...

Re: Getting Doctors notes to take to Oz!

I don't know if you'll get the originals as it's the information that is technically your's, not the records themselves.

You might try registering with another GP that doesn't charge for copies;...

Re: Getting Doctors notes to take to Oz!

As far as I know the information in your medical records is YOURS and your doctor cannot refuse you a COPY. They can however charge you for making a copy if they choose to.

We have several people round to give us estimates - I wouldn't have entertained doing it over the phone - and ended up going with Doree Bonner. They wern't the cheapest (or the dearest), but they...

They came and packed up out flat last Friday and I must concur; they were superb - I'd definately reccommend them.

I'll have to wait until the new year to find out what the lot at the other end...

This is something I'd be keen to find out about. I'm heading for Perth in the new year and I know WA has a big mining industry (although I don't know about the Perth area).

Re: Last minute decision

Thanks for your replies

The job is an IT job - I'm a software developer by profession and I know the IT job market is much stronger in the eastern states so finding work will be harder in Perth....
