Well I would say 80% of the work I picked up was with expats and 20% spanish.
You can network anywere at anytime, we did voluntary work at the local APAD walking the dogs and met a lot of people...

They can only access what you choose to let them access. IE. what you have in your "Shared" folder or you can block them all together by selecting "public location" when connecting.
