Re: Are you living the life you moved for?

Yes mero is very nice, and although panga has a bad rep, it can be ok. However, I've heard from more than one source that some establishments have tried to deceive customers, despite the population...

Re: Are you living the life you moved for?

Little trick they do in some places is serve you panga instead of mero. Panga being much cheaper, hope you can tell the difference.

Re: Are you living the life you moved for?

I imagine sitting with the locals will be difficult at first, if at all. I come from a different background, but I would say don't expect locals to come and show a real interest in you, especially if...

Re: Cadiz?

Re: Spanish languages

Go to a rural area in galica and ask them to speak castellano, they will oblige for a minute then revert back to galego/castrapo without realising it. This is mainly the middle-aged to older...

Re: Spanish languages

In many cases people who live just outside cities speak galego and many people within speak castrapo and they are most certainly not making a statement. The younger generation who live in the cities...

Re: Differences between Spanish and UK press

Re: Where in Andalucia do you live and why

Live in El Puerto, chose it because it's not too big and not too many ex-pats, although bumped into one last night. He couldn't speak Spanish despite living 9 years here

Re: wanting to move to spain on my own

Obviously moving to another country requires a bit of planning or you will most likely fall flat on your face. As has been said by many, there is huge unemployment in Spain. You could go and rent an...

Re: Tell me what's really different.

I'm not talking about that, I am talking about people you have never seen before fixing you with a long stare. It is very prevalent among some small towns, but it is a cultural thing.

Re: Diet in Spain

Galicians are fat because they eat a tonne of food for every serving, lots of potatos, meat, seafood, thats because of historical reasons when galicians suffered hunger, they sort of went into "we're...

Re: Tell me what's really different.

Forget to mention the 10 second staring, very prevalent in some small towns. Could cause a fight in other parts of the world.

Re: Tell me what's really different.

Spain has the worst customer service in the world. In Jerez not long ago, I sat down at a bar/restaurant with a British friend and we were speaking in English.
I was then asked "¿Qué?" from a...
