Re: Found Wedding ring episode.

Thanks for the responses so far. I did have some confidence in the local Guardia office as when my cousin visited us she lost her purse here. It had been handed in and everything was there, including...

Re: Relocating to the Moraira area from Costa Blanca South

Hi Hayley,
Good luck with the move!
The school in Moraira is called the Cap D'Or and caters for infants and juniors, from there the kids move up to the school in Teulada. The school is also in the...

Re: Info please regarding Valencian 'cash grab' and CGT

Thanks for the information. I should have guessed that the words 'fair' and 'Spain' are incompatible.
So worst case scenario is that I have to pay tax on a purchase price that is dictated almost...

Re: Info please regarding Valencian 'cash grab' and CGT

Thanks for your replies so far, just to clarify, I do believe I got a bargain from a distressed seller. I'd rather not discuss the ugly subject of 'black' money emoluments or any other kind of...

It's been a long time since i've posted so please don't hold that against me!

A couple of days age we received some letters from the Generalitat dictating that our house is worth some €221,000...

Re: Battery back-up thinyg for power cuts

I would definitely recommend getting a UPS, and while you're at it make sure you also have a backup regime in place with at least one back up drive and possibly an online backup too.

I'm saying...

Re: moving to spain

Ahhh, that would explain it. I've had a look through their portfolio and there's nothing in my home town for me to even evaluate. If they were at rock bottom prices I'd have bought ten, rented them...

Re: moving to spain

I've just noticed a promotion by Bancaja whereby you take on a mortgage (not sure if it is one of their repos) and have nothing to pay for three years, no interest, no capital and no interest accrues...

Re: RYANAIR TAKING RISKS?

Last month when the volcanic ash crisis first appeared I happened to be in Birmingham awaiting a flight back to Spain. I entered the airport to see that all flights from Birmingham had been cancelled...

Re: What's the secret to great paella?

I thought using stock was compulsory! If you have time, best to make your own from all the fishy leftover bits and shells, boiled up with a bit of bay, parsley and seasoning (maybe some white wine...

Re: What's the secret to great paella?

I always put paprika ahumado in mine. To me, the flavour of smoked paprika is totally Spanish, maybe a cliche but it just is. Funny thing is I hardly ever see it in the supermarkets.

Re: What's Moriara like to live in?

Yep, that's right. Nobody here. In fact it's completely rubbish. I wish I had had such valuable insight before I moved here.

Re: What's Moriara like to live in?

Well I absolutely love it here. Beautiful, clean and friendly town. It is tiny though and you soon get to know people and all the encumbant gossip.

As for work, I guess it's the same as anywhere...

Re: black money

If you ask me, if every country in the world lost it's government overnight and state control was no more I don't that Spain would even notice!

They have succesful, huge anarchist communities in...

Re: Costa Blanca property prices?

Just to clarify, I'm on about how much money an asset can produce. In the case of property that includes if it used as a holiday let. If a property can only generate 12k even with a bit of lateral...

Re: Costa Blanca property prices?

The way I've always valued property is based purely on the yield.
To find a reasonable price for your house look at a comparable property that is let and work it out from there. Multiply the annual...

Re: where to buy in alicante?

Come out now! So you can feel how cold it gets and see the region without many tourists. Everything looks great in the Summer but I think you get a better feel for a place in Winter. After all if...

I think it's hilarious!
A dispute between two terrorist organisations is conducted by letters of complaint? Perhaps they need a terrorist ombudsman? Or a 'Rogue terrorist' TV show?

It's hardly...

Two years on - update (tell me if I post too often!)

The second anniversary of our move to Spain has just passed and I must admit it feels like much longer. I think it must be the day to day uncertainty and variety of experience that does it, when you...
