Do any houses belonging to Spaniards ever get threatened with demolition? There are two I know of round here, both belonging to Brits, although there are also Spaniards in illegal houses.

Yes if you read lenox's post you will see this. It has to be said that maybe the Spanish have a better feeling for what is legal and not legal.

Or maybe they just don't care that a lot of people, mainly elderly who can't possibly start again, have innocently put their entire life savings and trust into a new home in Spain only to have their hopes dashed and their lives shattered

Yes, it's true they have this remarkable power that enables them to see into the future and determine which one's the Junta will declare illegal in 10 years time. I'm guessing that all the illegal one's in Galicia, Asturias etc will be owned by Spanish, did their powers desert them? Or is it only Spanish in the south that have this power?

I think the only protection you can get is a relative/s in the council, have the right political view and plenty of friends who like you in the town.

In my research very few med countries offer security that your investment is secure, maybe its a culture thing, I don't no.

I'm starting to feel the longer flight and travel time is worth it, at least your secure in other countries.

I'm sorry, but what has that got to do with anything?

The demolishing orders are unfortunate and I feel sorry for the people involved. However, this isnt an issue of nationality, it is an issue of corrupt local goverment. And a smaller issue of foreigners not knowing what they are getting themselves into.

If you think only British people are involved than you have a very narrow view of the world (and obviously a small circle of friends!)

Who said anything about nationality?
I've lived here for 42 years, have not been to the UK in 20 years, speak fluent Spanish and most of my friends are... (friends ).
It's still the case - why knock down homes with people living in them? What about the El Algarrobico hotel in Carboneras (Prop. PSOE)?

From what I saw on the news the hotel has a court order to be demolished which is why building work has stopped and noone is using it.

However, local politics shannagans have meant its not demolished yet. Think they are delaying hoping the politial environment changes and they can continue building again.

Ten houses belonging to Spanish families were demolished last week in Chiclana. One of the owners/developers is now on hunger strike camped outside the Urbanismo office. The Ayuntamiento say he knowingly built the houses and defied all the orders to stop the build, he says he is innocent.
