Re: House Prices in Adelaide

All depends on what you consider a nice suburb. Couldn't buy a house for that in some of the 'posh' suburbs certainly. Could buy a two bed unit near the beach for that price however.

Re: Applying for Work before you Land?

Keep an eye on the job sites, so you get used to the market and know what kind of jobs are out there.

But not much point in applying just now, unless you are trying to test the market.

I...

Re: Redbacks in the toilet, hmm I don't know?

I've been here for a year and I've never seen a snake yet. Seen a couple of huntsmen (they just run away) and a few small (in comparison to huntsmen) black spiders that are killed very effectivly...

Re: Lufthansa/ Frankfurt Airport

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I am going to go with yes, I will want to stick pins in my eyes. Saving $500 per person, so $1000 between us. We should be okay. I like beer and sausages.

Lufthansa/ Frankfurt Airport

Has anyone made the trip back to the UK through Frankfurt? Lufthansa can take us direct to Edinburgh without having to bugger about with more flights or trains. But it means 7 hours waiting in...

Re: Has anyone got a kindle?

Thanks for that, but I am wondering if they are any good in themselves? I think that thread mainly establishes that you probably can get your hands on one if you want...

Has anyone got a kindle?

My natural reaction to these is that they are just wrong, but am seriously considering it due to high book prices and lack of massive book shops where you can get every book you might want to read.

Re: Best suburbs in Adelaide - some advice please

We live in Henley Beach South, which we love, but possibly from your posts not really what you are looking for. I think a lot depends if you are a couple or if you have kids as well. Not really an...

Re: Dumb Questions re Newly Acquired Driving Licence

I passed my test three months before I got here (am 29). I WANTED to display P plates as I am (was) a bit of a nervy driver and had very little experience - just to warn others to back off. I had...

Re: permanent visa granted, I'm looking for a job and I keep receiving negative respo

If you want a job then I think you need to wait till you are about to go.

If you just want to test the job market - get an oz email address and sim card and send your resume without an address. ...

Re: Newbie Driving License question!

I was (am) in exactly the same situation. The guy at the goverment office was confused about why I was even asking, so I would say you would get a full licence straight away. Bear in mind though...

Re: SA Rentals

Honestly I think you are pushing your luck with that price range. What kind of property are you looking for and why do you want to live so close to the CBD? There are better parts of Adelaide to...

Re: Washing machine-to take or not to take?

We bought a Samsung one (front loader) with decent water efficency and fancy beeps and whistles and it cost $650. So £750 seems a little bit extortionate.

Christmas Dinner

I'm here to steal you ideas!

Re: How long it takes to get a first job in Australia

Depends what it is that you both do... We've been here since the end of August. I applied for one job just before we left the UK and I got it. My husband has had two weeks of temping, is currently...

Re: Shipping - I wish I had/hadn't packed....

My main tip is to put everything you want to take in your luggage in the luggage and weigh it. Then put it away. Everything else pack, the general everyday household stuff especially, as its a pain...

Re: Business Life in OZ

Have been working here for a whole month and a bit, but my opinion so far is potentially a bit of the headless chicken again. Senior management in my organisation seems okay - they're smart guys. ...

Re: Is toiletries and shower gell allowed?

On a plane - no problem, but I would declare them just to be on the safe side.

If you mean actually shipping it as in a container on a boat, then I would suggest that you prob want to leave it...

We've just done a wee camping road trip round Scotland, from Edinburgh up to Skye and then back down the east coast. Yes, we can always come back, but suspect those trips will be seeing family and...
