Default Applying for Work before you Land?

Hi

I have been looking on the SEEK and Western Australia website for work for my partner and I before our imminent move to Perth in August.

I know it is 6 months off but did anybody manage to secure a job before coming out there by sending of their Resume to relevant companies. Or did you wait before getting out there?

I know its nearly 6 months before we land but I just wondered when you started looking for work please?

I would welcome any advice on this matter please.

Many thanks

Debbie

I use Seek and I have got two phone interviews next week so it is possible. I was offered a job a little while back but turned it down and I have also had two other interviews on the phone which I declined at that point.

Only one interview however has been in a CBD (on Monday), so I guess this means that people don't want to work in more remote locations. I work in IT BTW.

I don't think there is any point looking six months in advance.

But we both contacted agencies / companies a couple of weeks before we went and as they knew we were due to arrive shortly they were happy to consider us. We had telephone interviews before we went and face to face meetings lined up for when we landed.

Keep an eye on the job sites, so you get used to the market and know what kind of jobs are out there.

But not much point in applying just now, unless you are trying to test the market.

I applied for a job about two weeks before we left, had a phone interview on the day we moved out our old flat, and had a second phone interview in the corner of Westpac the day we arrived in Adelaide. Started two weeks later. So definately worth applying as you are readying to leave!
