We stopped in Dubai for one hour which was good as its a v.busy airport, but time we got off and back on again it was about 30 mins so not that long, however the cleaners took a passengers shoes which he left on the plane! lol so they had to be given slippers for the rest of the journy..... hhe

I know i'm sounding like a moaner but trust me, when you spend near to a grand for a flight you expect something better than that. Also on the way home, someone was smoking in the toilets, we told the air hostess who turned a blind eye to it!! .....

We also stopped in Singapore and it is a very clean airport so I dont think you should worry to much about swine flu, the plane is probably the worse place to be honest..... but up to you really at what you want to do.....but I for one know I wont be going with Emirates again.....

Rant over! lol x
just curious how you clocked up 6 or 7 different aircraft. Even for a return journey, it would only be 4 aircraft at the most (1 change of aircraft in Dubai each way!).

I think your logic about layovers mid-flight is a non-issue. You're planning on taking a young baby around the world on a series of long flights. A lot of people, me included, always pick up bugs and colds on flights. They are breading grounds. I would suggest you have more chance of your baby catching something on the flight than the layover, specifically at Changi where they are clean nuts and were one of the first areas to implement thermal cameras during the Bird Flu outbreak.

We have travelled long haul with young babies a few times, not a pleasant experience but it is viable. At that age everyone worries constantly, but they are more resilient than you think and are very often com-fartable.

You're worry about something which is simply an incorrect perception. I would suggest you have a higher likelihood of catching Swine Flu in England or on the plane than in Changi Airport.

As mentioned in other posts it is a stunning airport with every type of service you could wish. Unlike the UK they won't shut down half the airport to refurbish for 6 months every year. I have spent seven hours there on one trip and could easily do it again.

Hey,

We had stop overs in Singapore for a few days you see, hence getting on more than the average amount of planes to Oz.....and all of them were rubbish...

Oh well you live and learn!

Singapore Airport is fantastic, I really enjoyed my time there. Any airport that takes the trouble to put a tropical butterfly garden in gets my vote.

I was told that S'pore airport has a nice play area and private nursary area for the little ones.

But amidst everything I'm panicking about the risk of high exposure to swine flu for my baby by having a long transit time at S'pore air port.
Where as with Emirates the transit time will be roughly 1 hour where we have to go in haste.

So what would you think, Will the chances of capturing Swine flu be high with a long transit time at S'pore airport?
London Heathrow is a third world airport when compared to Changi. Everything from the toilets up is immaculate, and considering the main way you'll catch swine flu is via germs from a surface transferred to your face, the hygiene of the airport is relevant.

Seriously - LHR and JFK are third world - get to Changi and see what a first world airport looks like.

I got really sad at singapore airport, first time we went there a disabled man who must have been a good late 70's was sweeping and mopping mcdonalds. Wanted to take the bloody mop and do it myself. Poor buggar.

It was a real wake up call after a few years living in OZ where people expect every bloody bonus/payment under the sun..........

Kids hate me in singapore/korea/china etc I keep pointing out how easy they have it in the western world.

Anyway good thread at least I know where the showers are this time, on the way back were straight through, OMG why did I book it that way
