Hi Everyone

We are in the middle of sorting out the removal of our stuff ready for our move in April and was just wondering whether to bring a washing machine or not? We didnt plan on bringing it over as we could do with a new one, but the last agent we spoke to recommended us buying a new one in the Jan sales, using it for a month or so and then send it with our stuff over to Oz. He said that the government in Oz are trying to get everyone to convert to our UK style ones and they cost £750 plus in Oz, so it is much cheaper to buy new here even with the removal costs-is this the best advice?

Out of the three agents, it is only one agent who advised us to do this-so we wanted to make sure before we went out and bought one

They are probably cheaper in the UK than Oz, particularly 'European" brands, so get a new one there and ship it.

They can be expensive but are coming down in price quite fast. If you're sending stuff in a container and you have a decent one then bring it. If you have one that's on it's last legs then dump it. I'd then get a new one here. I wouldn't bother buying a new one there, whilst international warranties work in theory, it would be easier to have an Aussie one for an Aussie sold one.

I brought mine with me but it was only 4 years old. I had heard that front loaders in Australia were very expensive but I have seen them quite competetively priced and certainly no dearer then the UK in some places.

What I would say is that IMO they are better than top loaders in terms of energy consumption and washing. I am currently in a rental awaiting my container and I am not impressed with the machine here.

I bought a brand new Vacuum too and shipped that, just took it out of the box and the shippers re-packed it, but found it here for the same price anyway.

Some things are more expensive, some the same and some cheaper. Google the prices, that should give you an idea

Not forgetting that once here you can haggle the price down further.

That's a point-another reason to buy it over there!

We bought a Samsung one (front loader) with decent water efficency and fancy beeps and whistles and it cost $650. So £750 seems a little bit extortionate.

The agent is way off. It just cost me approx AUD700 for a great 7kg front loader.

I brought mine - was only a year old and a really good one, 1600 spin - anyway it broke after 3 months here and I couldn't get it fixed cos it wasn't aussie made. Ended up dumping it and buying a front loader here for about $700, it's only 800 spin but with the heat here my wasing is still dry in half an hour
