Re: help re: Staying over 90 days in Spain due to lockdown

I'm sure that there are valid reasons why some haven't returned. However, those who've had the opportunity to fly back to the UK yet decided to stay, are blatantly ignoring the residencia rules....

Re: Spanish government declares state of alarm

We are non-residents over here at the moment, but due to fly back to the UK tomorrow.

We are worried about the travel risk (plane, public transport etc). So we may well feel safer staying put.

Re: Is there any animosity about brixit

Agreed.
Also, although many wont admit it, most Brits move to Spain not because they see it as the land of opportunity. It's the weather, lifestyle, property price etc. Relatively few for other...

Re: Question on 183 day rule / UK tax treaty

Thanks for your prompt reply.
I'll air on the side of caution and count my travel days as part of the 183.

Re: Question on 183 day rule / UK tax treaty

As a non-res, this year I will be getting near the limit of the 183 day rule.
But I just want to double check the current rule...
Is it 183 or 182 days in Spain - under current rules?
(I've also...

Re: Brits quitting Spain in their THOUSANDS over Brexit fears and exchange rates

Just to say that back in 70's I, like most others voted in favour of the Common Market. I still would today.

Re: Brits quitting Spain in their THOUSANDS over Brexit fears and exchange rates

With respect, the 3 day week was due to the oil crisis and the miners strike. We eventually got out of our own mess irrespective of the Common Market (which I voted for).
As for FOM, I don't think...

Re: Brits quitting Spain in their THOUSANDS over Brexit fears and exchange rates

I see the latter three as a natural evolution of the original 'Common Market'. FOM is an unnecessary and dogmatic EU ideology designed to underpin the concept of a future Federal Europe.
A...

Re: Brits quitting Spain in their THOUSANDS over Brexit fears and exchange rates

I agree with your opening line. I also think that the EU would have shown more flexibility if they hadn't been convinced that the UK would overwhelmingly vote Remain - we can thank Cameron for that....

Re: Do we change NIEs?

What Fred said a few posts back is exactly what I was advised. I know of non residents who have needed to update their old type NIE certificate to purchase a car.
As I said, the National Police...

Re: Do we change NIEs?

Thanks Fred. That's exactly how it was explained to me. Note that I am non resident.

t seems that NIE certificates changed sometime after mine was issued in 1997, so more recent ones are...

Re: Do we change NIEs?

In that case my NIE appointment with the National Police in Elche this morning was an aberration, as was the advice from my Abogado who's being dealing with expat issues for over 25 years.
No doubt...

Re: Do we change NIEs?

Today I visited the National Police and received an updated NIE certificate. Things to note:

The NIE number remains the same.
A passport type photo is required with the application, but does...

Re: Investigating long term parking in UK

Unfortunately many small UK airports are not easily accessible by public transport, hence the desire for cost effective secure long term parking - but not easy to come by.

Don't know about...

Re: Best way to transfer money

Totally agree. For a big sum eg. property purchase I would prefer to use the big banks even though their transfer costs maybe higher. Other than that, for regular transfers I've used CF for a number...

Re: Buying a car

Thanks.
Yes it is the NIE certificate I'm talking about (not the padron)
My current NIE was issued in 1997 (no expiry date).
I have been advised that it needs renewing for a car purchase, albeit...

Re: Buying a car

I have been told that the number is indeed valid for life, but an old certificate (mine is 1997) should be updated. I actual have an appointment with the police dept to do this. Now I'm confused!

Re: Greenish Flies?

Thanks for the reply. I think I've seen the flying insect you point to, but I don't think it was those - these were a bit smaller. TBH we were on our way out. If I'd had time I would have taken a...

Greenish Flies?

Last evening we saw what can only be described as a localised swarm of greenish flies. I'd say that they were just over 1cm in size and looked more like a mosquito than say a house fly. Never seen...

Re: Foreigners Register (Residencia)

Not directly related, but an NIE question.
