I seem to remember that some time back they started dating the NIE sheet and that although the number was for life they were insisting for certain administration situations such as buying a car the certificate had to be dated within 3 months. I thought that system had now stopped? Certainly. You certificate which is not dated and issued in 2007 has always been accepted. The padron certificate of course usually must be dated within 3 months but you can simply request a new certificate as required from the ayuntamiento if you are on the padron.

Thanks.
Yes it is the NIE certificate I'm talking about (not the padron)
My current NIE was issued in 1997 (no expiry date).
I have been advised that it needs renewing for a car purchase, albeit the number stays the same.
If someone could point me in the direction of a definitive answer I would be most grateful.
In the meantime I will question my fiscal rep again for (hopefully) some clarification.

If you already have an appointment you may as well go get a new / i.e. replacement certificate. Having another could be useful, e.g. if you loose the first.
