SA Passport Renewal in UK

So….after a long time, finally received a bunch of forms from SA High Commission in Whitehall for my wife’s SA passport renewal. There’s a lot more forms in there than I imagined, so wondered if...

Re: Safest area for young family to live in Capetown?

My wife, daughters and I lived in the Bloubergstrand area for a few years and enjoyed our stay. My wife is from Table View.

We lived in a few different places, but without doubt the best was...

Re: Internationally approved car seats for planes.

We've flown with ours a few times. Yes, they are cumbersome (especially ours which is heavier than normal), but we found our daughter was far more comfortable in the car seat than trying to get comfy...

Re: Single 40 Something in Cape Town

Just make your way to Mitchell's Ale House in the V&A Waterfront. Probably more expats there than anywhere LOL! It's a good place to ease yourself in though even if you don't like football.....

Re: Driving license

Have things changed recently? I lived and worked in Cape Town between 2008 and 2011 and drove without issue on my UK license. That includes buying two cars and having to produce my license at road...

Re: Westleigh - anyone out there?

My wife, two yr old augther and I lived in Westleigh for about a year.

Lovely kids park, dog exercise park as mentioned and generally very "nice".

Re: What's the Temperature & Weather like where you are now?

I'm convinced that the only reason people buy iPhones these days- particularly Expats, is so they can send the wanky screengrabs of the "oooooh, lookie it's soooooo HOT where I am right now!", to all...

Re: Caravan Touring in South Africa

I don't think I recall seeing one caravan in nearly three years living in CT...

I'm sure there is a "scene", though.

Re: Where to rent for 15,500 ZAR/Mth (Cape Town)

Are you working? Where? How many ppl/ bedrooms? Furnished or un-furnished etc etc etc..................

Re: Where is best to live in South Africa and take 2 dogs?

As above, I have never heard of any animal poisoning- certainly no more than I'd read about in the local UK papers anyway.

One thing to be aware of is quarantine laws may differ. AFAIK, there is...

Re: Goin to South Africa, Cape Town for 2 months

Yes, of course but I feel it is only right that the OP makes the trip to make a judgement for himself.

We're even considering moving back to Cape Town. My wife is from Cape Town, and we have a...

Re: Goin to South Africa, Cape Town for 2 months

I don't buy all this scare-mongering at all.

I managed to live in Cape Town for nearly three years without incident. I have family over there, and some UK ex'pat friends and none of them have had...

Re: Is it worth shipping the Vacuum Cleaner?

Hmpfff....re-wiring plugs is without doubt one of the most tedious parts about emigrating!

Done it once when we went to live in Cape Town (Uk to SA plugs), then again when we went to Sydney (SA...

Re: Goin to South Africa, Cape Town for 2 months

I guess you'll need to apply for a working visa thru the High Comission in London. I'd get onto it quick because as you'll no doubt soon learn, it generally takes x10 longer to get anything done...

Re: Best Airline to fly with back to the UK

I'd second Emirates also. Tend to be cheaper than the others, for the one-stop Dubai option. Depending on the specific flight, usually get an A380 on at least one of the legs.

Re: How to move GBPounds to AUDollars???

I bank with HSBC in Uk and set-up an account in Aus prior to us moving out there. Pretty easy, and allows simple transfers thru their "Global", portal. Not sure if you have to be a Premier member for...

Re: Which Permit?? High Commission Unhelpful

I believe the HC in Londonshire is indeed purposely run in such a manner merely to prepare any would-be migrants to what it's really like once you actually get over there! They'd hate you to think...

Re: How to Withdraw Super

Yes, if you have left Australia you need to apply for a DASP

As mentioned though, you have to make sure your 457 is...
