Re: BBC

I still have no problem with reading the BBC news site with a script blocker turn on, I don't get prompts to subscribe or anything being blocked as far as I can tell.

The whole site went really...

Re: UK Engineer looking to relocate to the US?

I would be very wary with moving to the US due to the way that US engineering companies are doing right now. Lots of big random firings even in non-engineering companies.

Re: UK Passport Renewal - Issue with Photos

My son seemed to have the same issue recently. Must have been rejected five times with only very vague reasons. I figured it was because of the very slight shadow on one side of his face, barely...

Re: TV Antenna’s

My antenna is set up inside my roof. I get fewer channels that way, but my wife doesn't want it on the outside of the house. I really only use it to watch the local news anyway.

Re: Contemplating a Move to the US

I wouldn't rule out California due to distance - how often are you or relatives really going to be making the flight? More than twice per year? The time difference isn't that big of a deal either, I...

Re: BBC online now charging US located persons?

The quality of the BBC news website has dropped markedly this year. I used to spend 15 minutes reading the news, now I only spend 5. I would not pay for it in its current state.

Re: BBC

I can view the BBC website on my laptops in the US without any issues. I have script blockers, so maybe they are enabling me. I don't want to turn them off to find out in case it stops working.

Re: Dual Nationals ETA experience traveling to UK

£589 for a certificate of entitlement. Somewhat more expensive than a UK passport.
It's unclear what the penalty is for not using a UK passport or certificate of entitlement. And how would they...

Re: Moving back home to escape the craziness

I own a house, I have kids still finishing school, so moving back to the UK involves pulling up roots. If it gets really bad then at least I know I could do it, although I have let my UK passport...

Re: WTF in America Part 2

Re: WTF in America Part 2

She does this so often, I don't think I've ever seen her without at least her nipples on display in public. It's bad enough that she has to stand next to a dick. I think it must be some weird...

Re: Kamala and her Democrats vs the Donald and his Republicans: Best for Visas?

Naturalisation cases typically took 3-6 months in my closest agency before Trump took over, but went up to 18 months under him before covid even hit. He knew that new immigrants typically vote...

Re: Citizens - Register to Vote

A lot of states have been "cleansing" the voter registration lists, so if you haven't voted recently, have moved and not told them, or they suspect you are a Democrat, they'll remove you from the...

Re: How are you treated for being British?

The hate for British people in the USA is tiny in comparison to the hate for the USA in Britain.

People's reaction to finding out I am British tends to be indifference, but every now and then...

Re: Meanwhile in Florida

Looks fairly standard for where I live near the reservations in the PNW. It's pretty much a constant booming from sunset until 1am, then a little less during the night.

Re: Solar eclipse 2024

It was just cloudy here in the northwest. Some people a few hundred miles away from me got enough of a break in the clouds to see a bit of sun with a small chunk taken out, but I didn't see anything.

Re: Anyone in Seattle?

Well, you're right, affordable and family friendly are opposites in the city. You could actually argue that affordable doesn't exist at all right now.

Traffic is terrible and getting worse, so...

Re: Republicans melt down

They are really going after Gaetz now.

Re: Republicans melt down

It's all dumb The far right Republicans had enough leverage on McCarthy that they could have had a lot of their policies go through. They wasted it on trying to shut down the government for no real...

Re: Parking Laws Are Strangling America

It sounds like an odd mix to have a store like Walmart at a regular indoor mall. I always thought of a shopping mall as having a load of specialist shops and department stores. A...

Re: US Taxes introduced 2-step authentication

There is also freetaxusa, which is more like the sold tax packages in style. It bugs you every now and then to pay for upgrades, but you don't have to, you still get all of the big functions for free.

Re: Moving to America and very worried.

Apart from a little light mocking over the Revolutionary war, British food being bland/bad, and dental reputation, I've not experienced any anti-British sentiment at all.

Re: Mid-terms - hold my nose and tick the box?

The "close race" was a complete blowout, with the Republican losing by 14%. I know the media like to pretend that things are closer than they are, but the pollsters putting a race at 1% difference...
