Default TV Antenna’s

I had Dish network for over 8 years and they kept raising prices and with free streaming it was getting to the point I was only using Dish for local channels. We are 70 miles from Nashville and 50 miles from Huntsville Alabama. So two weeks ago I took a chance and canceled Dish and bought a high quality antenna and preamp. I also bought a Tablo device which functions to wirelessly connect the antenna to any TV in the house thru Roku or Firestick which I have both. The Tablo is also a video recorder 2 or 4 channel. It also can have a built in antenna for those in suburbs but I got no internal antenna to use by outside one. I made a very sturdy bracket and installed my antenna on Roof pointed to Huntsville which is the closest to me. When fired my Tablo indicated I had 131 channels available which 50 was pure antenna and the rest internet via the Tablo. I now get all local channels from all major networks crystal clear for zero cost. Plus my Netflix and Prime.

Good for you! I got rid of cable 8 years ago as I was tired of the fees constantly increasing and I don't watch a lot of television. I live in a condo, so unfortunately, I cannot have an outdoor antenna (I am sure that it would provide a lot of channels) but I have a small indoor antenna on my entertainment center and I can pick up about 20 network channels which is fine for me. I also stream a lot so with the channels provided by the indoor antenna I am all set. One thing to point out - I am in a 2nd floor condo and I believe that helps. I know someone who lives on the ground floor and she had no luck with the same antenna.

I bet the extra height of second floor helps. A Tablo device with built in antenna could work well for you plus give you a video recorder. The cost is a little over $100 for the unit. They have a website that has information about how it works.

Thanks! Will definitely consider that option!

This is exactly what I want to do. I've never even had cable at my current address. If it wasn't for the summer lightning storms being so severe i'd have done it already.

How far are you from the stations? I like the Tablo unit because it wirelessly connects all TV’s in the house to the antenna if you have WiFi plus is a 50 hour VCR. It has an optional built in Antenna if the stations are fairly close maybe within 20-30 miles.

My antenna is set up inside my roof. I get fewer channels that way, but my wife doesn't want it on the outside of the house. I really only use it to watch the local news anyway.

That was a consideration for me also but I was about 50 miles from the stations and decided to put on roof. I had already made a very sturdy bracket for Dish to use for their dish and I just modified it for the antenna. The antenna looks better that the dish on the house. The antenna supplied channels are indistinguishable in quality from the streamed ones from Roku or Netflix.

Many years ago, we moved into a house that supposedly had cable, but the signal was almost non-existant. This was when cable was just starting up, so pretty rubbish. A neighbour was fed up with it as well, so we decided to put up television ariels on our roofs. Another neighbour, next door to our friend, claimed the tv ariels were stealing his signal. That gave us a laugh for a few months, after we explained it didn't affect his junk at all.

I am very happy that I got rid of dish and went with the antenna and the Tablo unit. My Tablo has a four channel recorder that is very user friendly. Plus it wirelessly connects the antenna to both our TV’s. The picture quality from the antenna and Tablo unit is indistinguishable from Netflix or Prime.
