BBC online now charging US located persons?

The living room PC has its location set to the UK (DNS). That has no problems either. I have a VPN set on my work laptop. Haven’t tried it today but was working last night.
EDIT
Just jumped onto the iPad (Chrome). Incognito works just fine there too.

I learned of this in early July when someone posted about it. well, today, I finally got the pop up on my phone telling me to subscribe. A bit dissapointed but I seem to be still able to read stuff on my computer for some reason.

If you pay do you get access to the same content as Sounds had?
It's not clear to me from the website if it does, I never listen to the live stream mostly due to time difference and depend on the "catch up" feature.
"The BBC has introduced a paywall for people looking at parts of its website from the United States.US-basedvisitors to BBC.com will now have to pay $49.99 (£36) a year or $8.99 (£6.50) a month for access to most BBC News stories and features, and to stream the BBC News channel."

I will push back on it being worth it. A few reasons...
1) I do not think the BBC website is good value for the price asked. Very, very subjective, but it's where I personally fall
2) Subscription exhaustion. The amount of garbage that requires a subscription these days is... quite simply exhausting
3) I'd rather ads. I know not everyone's cup of tea
4) The 'just pay it' attitude allows those in a position of authority to push through abusive and coercive business practices
Anyway, all subjective, but I will not be paying, even it means not watching BBC content, no loss to them I am sure.

Why pay a BBC subscription fee when you could get a VPN for about the same price? Maybe even less. A VPN gives so much more flexibility. I have Nord VPN and can select a UK server and watch BBC, ITV, etc. If I'm out of the US, I can select a US server to watch my US streaming services.
