Re: 457s will have to pay for their kids education in WA.....

What is the real cost of education in WA? I'd venture to say it is a lot higher than $4,000/year. 457 Visa holders are only in the country on a temporary basis. When they leave they will be taking...

Re: September 7, 2013

Do they stop advertising government positions during an election? Admittedly I haven't looked in a few months but this is the first time I have gone to the Geoscience Australia website and there has...

Re: $20 trillion shale oil find surrounding Coober Pedy 'can fuel Australia'

Didn't see any mention of this in the article:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oil_shale

"The water needed in the oil shale retorting process offers an additional economic consideration: this may...

Re: Most overrated tourist attraction ?

Hands down: Kelly Tarlton's Sea Life Aquarium in Auckland - it is small, overpriced, and unexciting. When you leave you find yourself laughing at how much you paid and how little you saw. How bad is...

Re: Please Advise : VE-176 Visa, Is it possible to move to another state.

This has been discussed many times before. For example: http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=746448

The upshot is that her obligation to remain in the sponsoring state is a moral one...

Re: The 23 best countries for work-life balance... Really?

No, that would be because, much like Canada, the banks didn't go down the toilet during the GFC and there is lots of stuff in the ground to dig up and sell to others.

Re: Advice on Reasonable flights to UK

I have used kayak.com several times and have found it works well for getting good prices but that might only be when flying from North America. For arguments sake I did a search for a 2 week trip...

Re: How can you watch UK TV on your computer for Free in Australia?

The thing to remember about most torrents is that, unless you are using a private tracking site, the anti-piracy police will be watching you. Think I'm joking? Download a copy of PeerBlock...

Re: Using an agent and communicating with the DIAC.

Not sure it is supposed to work this way I have read comments from a number of people using agents who have contacted their case officer directly - usually towards the end of the visa process. In...

Re: Validating a visa

Sorry to dig up an old thread but can you elaborate on what those reasons might be? Maybe I am being paranoid but on two occasions during the application process we had couriered documents go...

Re: Is a 176 processed faster than a 175?

Admittedly not a very scientific sample but, from what I see on another site dedicated to South Australia, those with SA State sponsorship are often getting CO's assigned within 2-3 weeks of applying...

Re: I am willing to be wrong, could someone help.

Applying for state sponsorship with no intention to ever live there would mean lying on their application which is against the rules. That being said, the ability of either the state or DIAC to know...

Re: I am willing to be wrong, could someone help.

This issue has been discussed to death on these and other forums. Under a 176 visa, you are expected to live in the sponsoring state for at least 2 years but this is a moral obligation only - not a...

Re: immigration skilled class 175

While you may have enough points for a 175 under the current rules, you should note that the points test is going to change on July 1, 2011 which may or may not work in your favour:...

Re: SA May 2, 2011 Deadline for Sponsorship Applications

Last year DIAC stopped accepting applications for offshore general skilled visas at midnight on May 7, 2010. There has been some speculation on these forums that it might happen again this year at...

Re: Need Help in New Point System

1) The short answer is no. Under the new points test the SOLs will still apply:

Re: Options running out

Eric, sorry to hear about SA. You didn't answer umair's question so I'm left wondering if there is any chance you could qualify for a 175 after July 1? That might involve redoing the IELTS test to...

Re: SA - Rules concerning the witness signature (cover sheet)

We are using an agent and they didn't mention anything about needing a solicitor as a witness. As you said, the only requirement seems to be that it can't be a relative. Good luck with your...

Re: statement required

Not sure about Victoria but I imagine their application is similar to SA who ask if you have any relatives in Australia. Not disclosing that fact might end up looking a lot worse than telling them...
