I would say that there is little chance of hte points requirement being revised downwards to 60; it hasn't even been introduced yet so why would they chnage it? Previously people in late 40's did not qualify at all, now there is a slight chance but if they wanted it to be easy for people in their late 40's they would have given some points for age.

I would not waste my time applying just to go into a pool.

It's always been very difficult for people over 45 to get into Aus for a reason, the government want 'youngsters' and always will. It's not supposed to be easy to be granted a visa, they want people who are more than keen. Mind you, it's still easier to migrate to Aus than many other countries, including the UK.
