I've never really heard any NSWers go on about Bondi as far as a beach is concerned. I think they all pretty much say it's a poor beach if you are referring to white sands, lovely water, beautiful landscape ..... which it is not ......... Great perv though.

I was doing a tourist drive around the Blue Mountains last month with family from the UK and we spotted a tourist sign to something called the 'catherdral of ferns' at Mt Wilson, just off the Bells Line of Road.
It is basically a few fern and a few trees! You see better things by the side of the road!

They go on about it as if it is the only beach in the country.

Hands down: Kelly Tarlton's Sea Life Aquarium in Auckland - it is small, overpriced, and unexciting. When you leave you find yourself laughing at how much you paid and how little you saw. How bad is it? When I'm trying to explain to my wife how crap something is I now say it is "Tarltonesque". If I was from NZ I'd be embarrassed to take anyone there.

I must confess that i am surprised, nay amazed, at the amount of time you spend on the BE site thee days Chris. Missing Australian? Or just nothing to do on the long cold dark evenings?

Do "they" really ?
I've lived in NSW for about thirty years and I've never heard anyone 'bang on' about Bondi beach being the best in the world...... I wonder why that is ???

Depends on what you go for. There are some fantasic cake shops / cafes down the main street.
There is a Russian cafe that has been there for years that does some fantastic cakes!
It has been on TV a few times.
I agree that they beach / bay area of St Kilda isn't much cop though.

Re: Most overrated tourist attraction ?
In Oz I'd tend to say that most 'tourist attractions' fail by virtue of not thinking and making the best of what they can have. Too many marketing words, not enough delivery. The days of people turning up in a coach, looking at a random object, taking a few snaps, then going away again, are over. Much more is required, particularly if you are expecting them to travel hundred of kms to be there.
They need to be thinking, and acting, on the words 'experience' and 'interactive', rather than just tacking them on to tacking marketing copy. If you want me to just look then it had better be big and impressive, like a mountain range or the grand canyon.
