Re: Moving to Javea - looking for advice

Hmmm ... I live in XÃ bia and it's certainly not the winter Eastbourne that you seem to suggest. It's a working town, people young and old still go out and let their hair down and I've certainly not...

Re: Are You Going To Vote?

If one doesn't vote then one really can't have too much to say about the running of the town? It's much the same as someone who moans about the state of the local postal deliveries and cleanliness of...

Re: Utility suppliers, how do they?

It could be that there was no balance to pay those bills in 2009 and 2010. AMJASA in Javea tend to do this; if there is no money in the account to pay a specific bill then they leave it; when the...

Re: befuddled and confusing which telecom company to choose.

As far as I understand it, Movistar / Telefonica remains the owner of the physical network but Direct Telecom (as would any other telecoms company) takes on the responsibility for that...

Re: befuddled and confusing which telecom company to choose.

Try Direct Telecom's 'One Call' option. I've been with this company for some six years and their service & support has been quite exceptional, far better than Movistar / Telefonica.

Re: Are You Going To Vote?

DON'T mark the list in any way! Just take the list of candidates of the party that you want to lend your support to, stick it in the envelope, show your ID and then put it in the ballot box when...

Re: it was a bit windy yesterday.............

Where though? The severe gota fria storms tend to strike a small area rather than a whole coast or region. For instance, when Javea got hit a couple of years ago, places a few klicks up and down the...

Re: it was a bit windy yesterday.............

I've seen quite a few out to sea off the coast of XÃ bia, especially in the winter months when they seem to be quite common, but this is the first time I've seen one strike land! Awesome! And it...

Re: driving in flip flops

Actually, I understand that it's now illegal in Scotland but not anywhere else in the UK, although the safety aspect surely suggests that driving barefoot is not a good idea. In fact the DSA actually...

Re: Whats your favorite Spanish language tv show and why?

Watching quiz shows with the subtitles on is a great way to learn the language because the format of them is by its very nature repetitive. Have a notebook and dictionary handy, jot down the words...

Re: Employers Social Security Contributions

We could afford it by offering our contracted staff a lower hourly rate than 'cash-in-hand' staff in other bars but they appreciated that contributions were being made on their behalf into the state...

Re: Uk licence new laws. Medical.

It isn't a new law but for some reason it seems to have been ignored.

The rule is a UK/EU driving licence is legal anywhere in the EU, even for residency, but the holder must comply with the laws...

Re: Weather in Feb

I'm in Xabia, just up the coast from Calp, and the weather in February can be quite pleasant during the day, averaging around 14°c, but it can feel warmer in the sunshine (and consequently a lot...

Re: TIME, Gentlemen, Please.."Sunny Days are Here Again!"

Re: looking for chef work in spain

To be honest, it's the wrong time of year to look on the Costa Blanca. The summer season begins to wind down in a couple of weeks and restaurants and bars will begin to cut their staffing levels....

Re: practice your spanish with music

La Camisa Negra by Juanes is a wonderful song ... until you start translating its lyrics and it's terribly depressing!

Re: Swine Flu Vaccination

I wouldn't touch a so-called swine flu vaccination with a very, very long barge pole attached to another very, very long barge pole, let alone exposing it to kids! It hasn't been sufficiently tested...
