driving in flip flops

How about just banning the French?

The Guardia have been quite active in our area with the no flip-flop rule as they have with bags of shopping on the back seats (they must be restrained in case of an accident) and drivers arms sticking out of windows (the driver deemed not to be in full control of the vehicle). Depending on their mood, they have also been fining drivers who have been smoking whilst in control of a vehicle.
They have also been quite stringent with hands-free mobile calls and the rules do actually state that the Bluetooth option for hands-free is illegal whilst an option built into the vehicle is not. A friend of mine discovered this little gem the expensive way.

Actually, I understand that it's now illegal in Scotland but not anywhere else in the UK, although the safety aspect surely suggests that driving barefoot is not a good idea. In fact the DSA actually suggests that you don't drive barefoot because "you don't have the same braking force with bare foot as you do with shoes". That said, they have also said that you can take a driving test in bare feet so I can't quite see which message they are trying to get across!

But here's the thing - Have you every been walking barefoot and had the smallest of stones / gravel make you jerk / hop / loose your balance ??
The point is NOT so much the driving but "under your feet" in general.. Imagine that happening when you are about to brake etc..
England has one of the best driving standards in the World, my opinion, so we all here know what's sounds right from wrong / don't we

And for all the parents out there, imagine if you will your child had a car accident due to an insecure shoe trapped under a pedal or some-doing..

We ARE our child's BEST role models

IE: We wear some shoes for driving and others not.
I for one can 100% say that driving without a secure shoe of sorts make a terrific difference to accelerator response, braking effect and clutch control.

Operating a clutch pedal is VERY MUCH different than when you have shoes on.

Hardly how much pressure in an emergency stop is used per inch on a brake pedal then ??

I can't understand people somewhat defending or excusing driving with no shoes on.
Next thing people will be saying 'well I made sure there were no stones in my footwell and it's real easy to use the brake pedal on my car'..'but for some reason my foot slipped off!'..
So feet don't sweat then ? What's that ? Ahh, of course a/c in the footwell.
How many of us think that when WE passed our test in ENGLAND would we have been allowed to drive in flip-flops or even barefoot ??
Excuse me whilst I get back up off the floor from laughing

I have a tiny problem, the last car I hired in Spain was a Berlingo and quite often as I was driving my foot covered both the accelerator pedal and the brake. The accelerator usually won as the pedals were poorly adjusted with the obvious result. Shoe off and I had full control.
My tiny problem - size 14 feet.
