I always take mine off, cos the one time I did keep them on, the flip flop bent under the break pedal and wedged so I couldnt push my foot down. Go on, now tell me driving bare foot is against the law!!

I'd heard about the Guardia stopping people on N332 between Denia and Javea and fining them for driving in flip-flops a few weeks ago ... not sure if it was on this forum or another ... but the general consensus of opinion was that it was also illegal to drive barefoot. Shoes worn for driving should have a back apparently!

Yes apparently this is stipulated in Spanish driving laws so the GC are entitled to fine you - Having read this the other day I have been conducting a survey ie observing the Spanish who in the main are still 'flip flopping' including some old boys - I would love the see the GC try and fine them!

I suppose the cynics (not me of course) would say the tax revenue situation is somewhat different between cigarettes and flip flops!

To kill two birds with one stone so to speak,....what about smoking and driving?
A guy I knew dropped his lit ciggy right down between the top of his legs whilst driving.
The rest is history and so is his car.
Straight through a fence, down an embankment,..three people injured,..the car written off.
Suffice to say he doesnt smoke and drive anymore.

It's certainly illegal to drive in flip flops in Italy - though most women do it.

They seem to think that smart backless sandals/flat shoes are not the same as beachy type flip flops.

It doesn't matter how many jewels, beads, or diamonds your flip flops have, if they don't have a part around the heel stopping your sweaty foot from slipping, they are officially illegal.

No idea how much this law is enforced in summer time though.
