We lived in Auckland for 6 years the prior 30 years were spent in London. Then in 2000 we moved to Melbourne for better career opportunities. Wife and I now have 2 kids both Aussies

Thats because it has an electric booster. So even there is no sun you will still have hot water. In fact approximaely 40% of your hot water will come from the electric element not the solar gain.
