The scheme exists the same way as in the Uk so you are protected. Most of the major banks have been around for a long time so you are as safe as you can be or at least safer than stufifng your money...

In £ terms you haven't made a capital gain so you are not liable for uk...

You cant apply from within Australia. You can enter on a tourist visa but would need to leave and enter i.e nz on a cheap flight and wait for a few days to get your working holiday visa

I think theres normally a fee for opening a bank account but they waive it if you are using them for transfer service which has been cheaper having looked around
