Ringing estate agents in the morning and we are months off. My logic is if we sell now we do not risk a market crash, I honestly think in a high interest account my equity would grow faster and I can check exchange rates and should it get to 2.5 (wishful thinking) then I can press the button and exchange. Also one less thing to stress about.

We're putting ours on the market in the next few wks, only just applied for visa (last week). We have a plan in place though, we're moving in with MIL til we leave - it means our profits from house sale can sit in a high interest account for a few months, we won't be paying a mortgage and only paying half a household's bills so we'll save loads of money, all good for the adventure ahead!
I'm also concerned about potentially how long the house could take to sell so I'd rather get it sold asap.

Us too - we sold before we even applied for ACS, about 6 months ago. The market was strong then, but the forecast gloomy - we got a good offer & took it. We're now in rented, still trying to get the ACS together :curse:

good idea about putting money into a high intrest account.
wish we had sold last year when it was booming.

as you all say at least we won't have to wait when we get the visa (if)

Case Officers and Agents always warn people not to sell house till they get their visa in case the inevitable happens and you don't get it.
So unless you had intended to move anyway, if you didn't get your visa i would not sell first.

WE are just waiting to be asked to pay our money and granted our visa but a hold has been put on our visas and we may not now get it till July so although house pics all done and houseis ready to sell we are still waiting.

Hope that helps some of you

we put ours on the market last april just as we started the application process - plan being to go ino rented and put the cash in high interest account....however..it's still on the market, only had 6 viwings and we're dropping the price all the time (£30k so far). Better to sell too early (and rent) than too late. Good Luck!

we did, and went and bought a caravan and sat on a site for 3 months. Worked out well, was like being on a holiday every day.
Think we had decided that if it all fell through we would just move anyhow, towards the end of the house sale we couldn't stand the place, found all the faults etc so thought sod it everything went into storage and we lived in a field!

id think about selling now, our house been on market since the day after we got our visa last august and we've only had 7 viewers and not looking like its gonna sell anytime soon, and as of yet we still havent validated our visa cos was hoping to get a sale and go before it needed this, but with may creeping up looks like we gonna have to book a trip afterall, gonna give it another week and if nothing then book a trip for end april/beg may.

i really feel for anyone stuck with a house after having visa, cos its not been pleasant, knowing we are wanting to get out there and start our adventure but cant go anywhere being stuck with our house.

n hindsight we would have definatly sold up before we got our visa

good luck wotever you decide, i hope it sells quick

We are selling our hopefully to a guy who buys to let. It means we have had to discount it a lot, but we can rent it back untill we go
