For what its worth, our trends are certainly suggesting that Brisbane is the most popular destination at the moment for tradesmen with Perth a close 2nd.
Lack of skilled tradepeople are pushing prices up in both areas. I would suggest Brisbane as being a better place to start off seein as the median house price is still a lot lower than in perth

I have to agree with ccraig. about brisbane. I know the trade front here in central coast is very quiet. Also it is much easier to get a license to work in queensland than it is in NSW, that makes a huge difference..E.

I have 1st and 2nd fix listed on my van (with other job types as stickers) and every now and again I'll get "whats that 1st and 2nd fix thing mean" over here its not used that much, I like turning round and saying.." well if I dont fix it first time round, I do it again" hmmm is the answer normally OR we say it involves some drug activity but to anyone else its your jobs like architrave, skirting, sills and finishes etc etc. Bespoke is another term over here that stops people dead. Hope that helps that rate goes up a bit this end too www.tjs.com.au

That said my hubby is working Currumbin Valley and gets $30 p.h on self employed basis. Had to start on $25 until he was assessed which is labourers wages.

might be easier to get a license, but remember that when you get here, your TRA accounts for nothing. You have to get assessed all over again, and can only get assessed for one thing at a time, for example, carpenter and then reassessed for joiner. Will cost around $500 to $1000 bucks to prove AGAIN what your hubby already proved.

Yes ,you would hope so. But I have spoken to and written to nearly all but the minister of trade and education here in respect to Nsw policy that " they do not recognise trade overseas qualifications (except electrical and metal trades) " :curse:No department has proved me wrong yet. Any trades man here with overseas qualification will have to pay between $2200 and $3500 to get reassessed and take six months for it to happen.
I wish someone could prove me wrong, oh, I wish.
