Re: UK to Australia and now US?

I lived in NC for close to year and found it pleasant enough. Hard to know what constitutes pros and cons as everything is personal but here's my take:

Re: Moving Back for the 2nd Time From USA to UK

If you leave the US but think you might return again then leave the 401k alone and let it mature, or roll it into an IRA. If you're moving back to the UK for good then I'd be tempted to cash it out...

Re: San Diego or DC?

My folks certainly appreciate that direct flight but I never understood how you get a loaded 747 off that runway.

You sure can't beat that So Cal sun. It started raining here in September and...

Re: San Diego or DC?

Yes and yes. For me San Diego is a no brainer but I need to think of my wife as well. Maybe I'm being selfish but I really do not want to live in DC. Just hoping someone can change my mind.

Re: From Manchester to California? I need your help Expats!

Yes indeed marry her! I met my future wife at Glasgow Uni when she was studying abroad and we decided we couldn't live apart. After 2 years of trans-continental dating we realized the only option...

Re: Hate the US need to move, $125k, where to?

Go for it. No kids, no mortgage, what have you got to loose? Similar thing happened to my wife and I at about the same age. We were both in jobs we detested so after coming into an unexpected...

Re: Newcastle to Portland

I lived in Seaside for nine months about ten years ago. It was miserable. There is practically nothing to do there except watch drunken teenagers tear around town in over-sized pickups. Probably...

Re: Newcastle to Portland

I second that.

Check out Astoria if you can. It's not actually on the coast but is about 4 miles inland on the Columbia River. This is a historic fishing and lumber town that languished for a...

Re: cost of living in Seattle

Dunno how expensive your kid's school will be but 150k should be plenty adequate.
