Default How long is your commute to work ?

Houston, Texas
Percent of expenses spent on transportation: 20.9%

Annual delay per traveler: 63 hours

Gasoline is cheaper in Houston than just about everywhere else in the country, but the dollars still add up for the 94% of Houstonians who drive to work on a daily basis. They are forced to deal with congestion that lengthens their commute by almost half of what it should be.

Stay home and look after the kids - no commute !

Wife works in Houston - we live about 30 miles west, and she takes the park and ride or carpools, normally the latter - gets her commute down to 35-45 minutes and $0.

well mine is a walk to the station, 30mins train ride, walk from station to work... takes about 90mins total... it is however all by choice, one so I get some exercise and 2 so I can watch TV on the train in... I work 7am - 3:30pm so at those times I could drive in about 40mins each way.

total cost to me is $80/month for the train

I also work at home whenever I want to... which is handy.

10 to 15 minutes each way providing there isn't a train idling on the track

I could go another way to avoid the trains but it would take me at least 30 minutes and a lot more red lights

Husband: 20-25 minutes by car, 9 miles.

I stay home with the kids but still do more miles a day than he does.

Sorry to hear that, mate. When I lived in Strongsville, my I-71 commute was about 20-25 minutes, and delays were rare. I'm now in Cleveland Heights, and drive across town via Carnegie. About 30 minutes each way, but accidents are common. I don't know what I'm going to do when they start rebuilding the Inner Belt bridges.

Almost quicker to ride the short bus, eh Rince?

(I love the fact that it's come to mean driving a big SUV too. How appropriate.)

Well, I'm not working yet...but I do have a job!! I start in a couple of weeks. After 5½ years, I've finally got away from the crappy H4 visa and got myself back on the career ladder (at the bottom but what can you do?)
My drive will be about 40/45 mins, 30 miles each way.
