Re: Converting UK driving licence

I always felt in Italy that I could see my taxes coming back in the form of public services, from public transport to libraries, shops & facilities in rural communities, healthcare, etc. That has not...

Re: Converting UK driving licence

All I can say is I have had much better experiences dealing - and occasionally arguing - with people in Italian offices compared with the truly impossible situation of British call centres. The...

Re: Starting a business as a tour organiser

Out of interest, in which region are you based? There seems to be plenty of information around about courses and requirements for "accompagnatore cicloturistico/a", some positive and some negative....

Re: Starting a business as a tour organiser

A couple of thoughts that occur to me as a complete non-expert:

1) Is there an option of becoming a representative or agent for an existing organisation? Essentially becoming their UK/US facing...

Re: Length of rental contracts

It's true that it happens but it's not true that this is always the case. Some rentals are fully furnished - including furniture & kitchen and varying amounts of white goods - others are as you say....

Re: Length of rental contracts

I would imagine it's also possible to sign up to a 4-year contract and then give notice after 1 year. I think the standard notice period is 6 months, so it's not an ideal situation and you might...

Re: GP access in Italy

Minor point of order but prescription charges only apply in England & Wales, they're free in Scotland & NI.

Re: GP access in Italy

My memory may be failing me or I may have just been lucky. Not sure how relevant vet bills are for human prescriptions though?

I agree that paracaetomol etc. was far more expensive but I don't...

Re: GP access in Italy

I used to text my GP asking for an appointment and he would usually reply within an hour. He had 3 surgeries a week in the village, 1 of which was a walk-in one. It was incredibly simple to get an...

Re: WeBuyAnyCar equivalent

We sold my wife's car to Noicompriamoauto just before leaving Italy - it was not in great shape but they still made us an offer and it was better than we expected. Obviously their business model is...

Re: Driving UK to Italy

Low speed limits apply to snow chains but that's fairly self-explanatory & self-regulating given the conditions you'd be driving in if you have them fitted!

I strongly recommend trying them out at...

Re: Driving UK to Italy

In provinces of Trento & Bolzano, plus I believe Austria & Germany, a set of snow chains is considered adequate preparation. I think there is a proviso that if it is currently snowing then you may be...

Re: Non Residency Conditions

Short answer: no.

Longer answer: still no, I'm afraid. Even before Brexit it would not have been legal and post-Brexit you risk losing the right to enter the EU in the future as an "overstayer"....

Re: Online grocery Shopping Piemonte .

Iperpoli did a click & collect scheme but you had to have their loyalty card to use it, for some inexplicable reason.

During lockdown last year, a lot of small, independent shops did home...

Re: The Comfort Zone. Favourite food, drinks, where to buy, and recipes.

I can't give precise information for Genoa or Milan but in my experience you can sometimes find beans in Asian grocery shops. When I lived in Trento, there were a couple of stores, one run by a...

Re: Sicily...a couple of questions

It depends on how you want to visit Etna - we hired a car to drive up the mountain and stay up there, would have been a challenge to do that with public transport. But if you are more interested in...

Re: Sicily...a couple of questions

I realise if the OP is coming from Australia as the username suggests that Sicily might not seem like a big island but most people find it is much bigger than you might expect. As the other posters...

Are you looking to move within that area or internationally? I can offer a recommendation for the latter, not the former.

Re: RISK CERTIFICATE

Yes, would have been good to know about that when I moved to Italy. However, when moving back, I got a certificate from my Italian insurer, issued in English, which was accepted in the UK. Which was...

Re: TALK THE TALK. ITALIAN LANGUAGE QUESTIONS.

The common man is "l'uomo della strada", so you could perhaps use that in a similar context, along the lines of "non รจ in sintonia con l'uomo della strada"

Re: UK national coming from PORTUGAL to Italy - what requirements ?

Has anyone travelled over land to Italy? How did the process work when entering France (or other point of entry to Europe)? Presumably there were no checks at the Italian border?

Re: Meeting people

If you have hobbies or interests, joining a club is a good way of getting involved in Italian life, Italians love an associazione. When we were in Italy, my wife joined the local choir and had some...
