Unfortunately it’s the reality of the situation but they’re fine as a starting point if you’re desperate to live here, especially if the school will give you a better contract after a few years.

Yes I have, I did it at the commune. It’s relatively straightforward and consists of filling out a form, showing CdI, residency certificate and costs around €16.

The CIE with my card just stopped working for no reason, so I ended up getting a free SPID with Poste (I don’t bank with them) - it’s much easier.
