The Northern Beaches area includes those suburbs that are directly on the beach eg Manly, Freshwater, Dee why, etc. These are very expensive to live in if you are looking for a family home but...

With a young family you should also look at Forestville, Kilarney, Frenchs Forest, Beacon Hill, Davidson, Belrose and around that area. They are not on the train line but you can get to North Sydney.
