Tuesday evening has seen another long queue at the frontier for motorbikes leaving Gibraltar to cross into Spain.

Images taken by GBC at around 6pm showed there were no cars in the queue at the time, although motorcyclists spanned the entire length of the loop.

Monday saw similar scenes when waiting times were reportedly up to ninety minutes. On Tuesday evening, GBC understands the bikes moved along faster, taking between twenty to thirty minutes to cross.

In answer to questions, the Government said the application of the Schengen Border Code to non-Gibraltarians is causing build ups at different times. However, it points out the successful negotiation of a treaty will resolve this all round.

I believe the Government is using it's Rose Tinted glasses yet again.
Do they not remember that the worst/longest queues we had were before Brexit when Gib along with the UK was part of the EU.

As pointed out to you on numerous previous occasions, Gib was never a member of the Schengen Area.

When it is, all controls on persons will be confined to the external border, and the internal land border between Gib and Spain will be open (ie to all intents and purposes non-existent).

I'm sure you've seen other internal Schengen borders with Spain at work in your travels. When crossing between Spain and Portugal, for example.

Of course all these problems can be resolved simply by handing Gibraltar back to Spain and then Mr Bargate can live in one happy EU family

It's not about having my head in the sand, it's about knowing the difference between facts, half truths and hearsay. If this was a real problem that affected multiple people through no fault of their own, there would be some official report of it and talks between the respective officials in Gib and Spain.
I also have a different experience to most people in the queue as my ID is different to the standard ID card but it's easily fixed by presenting the correct documents at the right time and by politely explaining why you are presenting these documents instead of being awkward and barking your perceived rights to the border official. I'm not suggesting this is what has happened, but I've seen people doing the same and wondering why they are given a hard time.

Yes, Spanish authorities have always been friendly and professional to visitors.

Just a Gibraltar thing. People coming into places like the Canary Islands just get a stamp with no questions asked.

In fact Spain goes above and beyond to help out British tourists. So much so in fact that if you look at the official statistics it appears they have never expelled a single UK citizen for overstaying for instance. And I'm sure there are absolutely TONS of those around...

Well if Gibraltar draws a line and says "everything up to here is ours" and Spain doesn't recognise it, what Gibraltar calls an incursion is what Spain calls a boat going about its business. This is par for the course on any disputed border on land or in the sea.

After all the thousands of motorcyclists delayed at the frontier on Monday afternoon were predominately Spaniards returning home from their work in Gibraltar.
