Poor analogy given that two of the (alleged) provocations were Ukraine's applications to join NATO and the EU.

BTW it's Ukraine not the Ukraine.

The Canary Islands are an integral part of Spain. Gibraltar is not part of the UK.

Just a Gibraltar thing. People coming into places like the Canary Islands just get a stamp with no questions asked.

In fact Spain goes above and beyond to help out British tourists. So much so in fact that if you look at the official statistics it appears they have never expelled a single UK citizen for overstaying for instance. And I'm sure there are absolutely TONS of those around...

Brits travelling to the
Canary Islands have encountered long waits during passport checks, prompting concerns and complaints from UK holidaymakers who find themselves enduring extensive queues.

Looks like you have little knowledge of the people you admire!

You do know that the Maldives are not the Falklands right and of no interest to the Argentinians.

Trust me, there's a lot more water between California and Hawaii.

The Canary Islands are an integral part of Spain, unlike Gibraltar which is not part of the UK but just some "offshore territory."

Let's look at a few random issues and compare:
1. CI - same phone dialing code as Spain. Gib - different country code to UK.
2. CI - same internet domain ending as Spain (.es). Gib - different ending to UK
3. CI - same flag (Spanish). Gib - different flag to UK.
4. CI - same currency (Euro) as Spain. Gib - Gibraltar Pound.
5. CI - no passport control when travelling to other Spanish cities. Gib - border control when travelling to UK.
6. CI - Spanish car plates. Gib - non-UK car plates
7. CI - top players play for the Spanish football team. Gib - too FUNNY to write about...

Spain does not have majority support.
Under UN rules there has to be 100% agreement for any non self governing territory to obtain independence, Gibraltar normally polls 22 of the 24 votes.
Spain has a permanent seat on the Committee of 24 and usually gets a second vote from either Venezuala or Argentina.
Any honest self respecting country would abstain from a vote in which they had a vested interest.

But we are talking about Spain which is definately not a honest self respecting country

You have posted a list of reasons why Gibraltar should be recognised as an independant country in it's own right.

If Gibraltar wants to be an independent country in its own right then there are two choices open to it-become part of the EU and benefit from all the support and money that the EU will pump in and benefit from full freedom of movement in both directions or become totally independent as a third country and have to negotiate trade deals suffer from labour shortages and high inflation and go bankrupt ie become just like the UK but sunnier

First of all it's independent, not independant. Secondly, it would be quite funny to see all 6.8 km2 (with a big rock taking up a huge chunk in the middle) become a sovereign state of its own. I thought Catalonia trying to do this is ludicrous but Gibraltar would bring the level of farce to a completely new level.

Let me think, new passports, embassies around the world, foreign relations, etc. etc. etc., or would the UK have to continue covering virtually everything for them?

Personally I don't think the status will ever change. How would the Gibraltar economy function if they had to adhere to the same laws as the rest of the UK or the rest of Spain. It only functions for the same reasons as other places that are dependent on the "offshore financial sector."

Plus, unlike Spain or France for instance, does the UK have any territories that are not right on its doorstep but are still treated as an integral part of the UK?
