Re: In Australia I think MacDonalds should be a NO NO

The purpose of fox hunting is to kill foxes, which are vermin and do damage. The fun element of the hunt is irrelevant.

The purpose of seal pupping is to stop seals destroying fish stock. Income...

Re: Cold houses...

You obviously didn't bother to read the report I gave a link to earlier. Written by a NZ academic who is concerned about the high number of NZ'ers living in poorly insulated and badly heated NZ...

Re: Don't move back to London - there are some very good reasons everybody's leaving

Still, you can't beat the old 'black snot..or not' test, can you?

London fares much worse than Sydney.

Re: Don't move back to London - there are some very good reasons everybody's leaving

Never been to Cairo - tho I have dived the Red Sea. :)

Athens - been there four or 5 times and never had a bad pollution experience tho I was always on my way somewhere else, sharpish, islands...

Re: Cold houses...

You are still trying to say there is no problem with poorly insulated NZ houses.

You are clearly wrong.

Brits expect houses to have a minimal ie comfortable level of insulation / heat...

Re: how do you manage?

The repairs and maintenance bills on my rental place in Dunedin show surprisingly low call out fees and hourly rates, which is of course great for me but crap for the tradies. :)

Punish the Deed

Re: Don't move back to London - there are some very good reasons everybody's leaving

[QUOTE=sayonara-uk]This is a sweeping generalisation, and imagine the outcry if you substituted "Moslems", "Jews" etc. for "pit bulls" (not that I am counting them amongst "dog races"). Talking of...

Smile Re: Don't move back to London - there are some very good reasons everybody's leaving

Hang on, the media have a useful role.

Take pit bulls, they are now effectively a dead dog race in the UK thanks to the media and when the last living one dies out, they'll be gone - no more...

Re: Transferring funds -Capital Gains Tax

As I understand it there are two elements, interest and capital gain.

You will only be liable to tax on interest earned outside Aus once you are resident in Aus.

You will be liable to any...

Re: Taken house off the market

The BOE's remit is to keep inflation at about two percent, not to stop recessions.

Most analysts think that the possibility of putting residential property into SIPPs will have nil or nearly nil...

Re: Taken house off the market

It usually pays to nearly completely discount/ ignore the views of those with a vested interest in the housing mkt continuing to rise. Don't ignore their data - though take it with a pinch of salt...

Re: Taken house off the market

Your decision has to be respected.

However, my dispassionate view would be to sell, because IMHO the UK housing mkt has already started to fall and will continue to do so for a couple of years. I...

Re: Don't move back to London - there are some very good reasons everybody's leaving

This time round I have been away from the UK for eight years.

I really notice the changes now and how much it has got worse whenever I go back.

It's real - UK is becoming a nastier,...

Re: Don't move back to London - there are some very good reasons everybody's leaving

Re: Don't move back to London - there are some very good reasons everybody's leaving

Any Londoner will agree with this. It...
