Re: Goldcoast vs Sunshine Coast

For me its more like Marmite, love it or hate it. Having lived on the Gold Coast for a total of 5 years, (with a gap of 15 years in the middle), I love it, apart from Surfers Paradise, which isn't...

Re: Goldcoast vs Sunshine Coast

Fair enough and each to their own, actually I moved to the Gold Coast from Sydney & much prefer it, btu I don't spend much time in Surfers, especially at night!

Re: Goldcoast vs Sunshine Coast

I think you're describing Surfers Paradise rather than the Gold Coast as a whole, its a big pace (Aus 6th biggest city) and has many residential neighbourhoods without a high rise in sight.

Re: Goldcoast vs Sunshine Coast

Do a week in each, you'll need a car anyway so just do the trip once. SC and GC are both great but different and it depends on what you like. I live on the Gold Coast but work in Bris, the commute is...

PC component shops that ship to Aus?

Hi,
I'm after an Acer netop PC (RL70) which doesn't seem to be sold here. Ebuyer have a great deal on them but don't ship to Australia, one option is to have it sent to a rellie in the UK and have...

Re: Traffic conditions

Out of town its fine but in the CBD almost no restaurants have their own car parks, you're stuck with public parking. In CBD's most people don't drive to work, they take the train or bus (or tram in...

Re: Traffic conditions

Not many do, and those that do mostly give the spaces to senior managers, parking in Brisbane CBD is around $50 per day.

Re: CBD Area Advice Most Welcome......

Yeah, thats what I thought too, cost of a couple of beds, TV, fridge etc would pay itself back pretty quickly I would have thought.

Re: CBD Area Advice Most Welcome......

I realise that's what's available for the price but not exactly luxurious or large are they?

Re: CBD Area Advice Most Welcome......

Say Hello to the KP Hotel for me!

Do you know where you'll be working? Also fully furnished is really limiting your choices, you'd probably save by picking up the furniture you need cheap and...

Re: Union Jacks Closed Any Happy Hours in Brisbane

Glad to see you've arrived in not-very-sunny Brisbane (it gets much better) and that you have your priorities right.

I'm off back to visit the UK tomorrow to watch the games there!

Re: Torn between friend and career

I admire your loyalty but you also need to consider your own future, most people who move to Aus have guilt and reticence about the choice of leaving those that they leave behind, aged mothers and...

Re: Should I move back to Aus?

Cost of property is probably the big thing, I'm a few years younger than you and brought more cash but even with my wife and I on good wages (me also senior IT contracting in finance) Sydney housing...

Re: Interest Rates drop again but my mortgage

Banks haven't announced how much of the cut they're passing on yet, when yours does your variable should drop by that amount, as far as I know anyway, I expect mine to. 6.09% variable is not bad BTW.

Re: Gas or Charcoal bbq

I have a charcoal Weber kettle and a gas Weber Q, the gas one gets 20x more use than the charcoal.

They're different beasts for different jobs but no problem using either here.

The Q really is...

Re: Brisbane, short term rentals

Its raining and comparatively cold (about 20C) this week around SE Qld, bit of friendly advice, pull your finger out and sort something, or you'll end up in a hostel and/or paying a fortune.

Re: LAFHA Cancelled, reduction in rental prices?

Re: A balanced view of living in NSW - thoughts please

I've visited PMQ on a few occasions and always liked it, seems very quiet and didn't get any impression of high crime, although that was staying in a hotel and only for a day or two at a time.

Re: Brisbane, short term rentals

Asprilla is right, you're looking for holiday accommodation rather than a short term rent, take a look at www.stayz.com.au for these, the cheapest in Bris is $125 per night, but cheapest in QLD more...

Re: Brisbane, short term rentals

Hopefully someone will come on and contradict me but $300 pw sounds incredibly low. You may also want to look at the Gold Coast which is more touristy and as its off season cheaper for holiday...
