Default Gas or Charcoal bbq

Is there a problem with charcoal bbq's in QLD ?

Just finalizing our packing list and some bright spark has said that charcoal bbq's are frowned upon due to the risk of setting the country alight and so everyone has gas bbqs.

Looking out of the window at my large very well used Weber braai with which I have never set anything alight other than the odd sausage, I would be loath to add it to the list of stuff to flog before we go only to fork out a small fortune on a gas braai when we land.

So can someone give me a quick yes or no as to whether charcoal bbqs are frowned upon by the authorities, civil defence, neighbours, environmentalists etc
I have seen one for sale in Harvey norman amongst 20 gas braais so doubt they are illegal

Charcoal barbies are fine unless there is a high fire risk warning so you should be fine for much of the year. Get it really clean though.

I have a charcoal Weber kettle and a gas Weber Q, the gas one gets 20x more use than the charcoal.

They're different beasts for different jobs but no problem using either here.

The Q really is a great piece of kit.
