Re: Trying to pick a suburb in gold coast

 Really? What time is that? BB Waters to Coomera is 30km, so you can average 90km/h for the whole trip, including 12km of non-freeway??? I have done it from Southport and it took a lot longer...

Re: Trying to pick a suburb in gold coast

Its a major tourism location so hotels/apartments aplenty, if you really prefer a holiday home try stayz.com.au - I suggest 2 weeks would be very quick to fully check out all areas and agree a...

Re: North Gold Coast or south Brisbane??

Agreed, we live on at Hope Island which is nice, also take a look at the nearby areas like Monteray Keys (we used to live there). You need to visit but there is a huge difference between some places,...

Re: No Sound on TV

Is this on a TV you brought over? Try a cheap set top box if you want digital TV.

Re: North Gold Coast or south Brisbane??

We went for N Gold Coast, and travel to Bris every day, Vim is right the traffic is horrible but the hold ups almost always start and end at Loganhome so not too much difference in commute between...

Re: Considering Brisbane??

We drive to the CBD from Hope Island on the Gold Coast daily, the commute is a real pain, about an hour each way but its a beautiful place to live, the train is a nightmare though.

Re: Considering Brisbane??

I'd rather a longer commute than be forced to live in Brisbane.

Re: Considering Brisbane??

We were keen on a house in Sanctuary Cove but the Body Corp fees put us off. We bought nearby on Hope Island and visit the cove regularly, its a bit plastic but so am I, I suppose ;)

Re: Considering Brisbane??

Each to their own, Surfers is not for me, but where I live (Hope Island) suits me. I work in Brissie CBD but wouldn't live there.

Re: Considering Brisbane??

I love the Gold Coast (not Surfers Paradise though). Lots of people don't, but I and many others do. I find the bayside area nice but a bit quiet. Sunshine Coast is nice enough but too far for me to...

Re: Telstra 4G...

Yes, the phone switches to 3G if LTE is off (or if in a 3G only area).

They won't switch off 3G for many years yet, LTE is only available in the big CBD's and very few people have phones which can...

Re: Telstra 4G...

Yeah, mine's improved but still marginal, got mine on day one and had my first full day (5:30AM to 8:30PM) without a charge, this is with LTE turned off though, on it seems to drain faster.

Re: Telstra 4G...

I have a 5 too, speed varies heaps though, and LTE seems to drain the battery.

I like the 5 but battery life has been the biggest problem so far, hopefully IOS 6.01 or something fixes it.

Re: bg gas fitter looking at moving to sydney!!

I know nothing specific about gas fitters but I think most trades have to re-qualify for Australian regs and that this can cost a bit/take some time.

We lived in Sydney for a while and despite...

Re: Living Costs Oz vs UK

I'm pretty sure the average wage is higher, but the other factor to remember is many people coming over from the UK are bringing savings, and they simply don't buy as much here in Aus.

Fair enough, but on $150k its not unrealistic, especially if you have a partner who also works.

Re: Living in Brisbane/gold coast

Take a look at the Helensvale/Hope Island area (North GC) nice big waterfront houses, easy access to the freeway, not far from the beach and great for boating if you fancy that too. Expect to pay...

NAB have a migrant banking unit, so you can set up your account from the UK and call into your local branch to pick up cards etc when you arrive, which we found very handy, not sure which of the...
