Newman would say this is why he's doing it, dunno if he's right or not but 2 sides to every argument

There's absolutely no doubt he has to do something but there are ways of doing things and at the moment many people believe he's chosen the wrong way and many of the wrong people.

Especially when you came to power promising that if the public supported your campaign, public service jobs would not be indiscrimately slashed.
I worked out my future today. If and when I get the chop I will have to declare bankruptcy three months later. That then means I can't even go home as apparently Aussie bankrupts are not allowed international travel.
****ed.

The Queensland Public Service Watch campaign is about building an evolving list of changes to each portfolio, to document what is occurring and rule out unfounded rumours.
While we won't reveal our confidential sources, we will be open about where the information has come from, so that you might know how credible it is.
We will also put all published suggestions to the relevant minister, so that they may confirm or deny it - on the public record.

Looks like QBuild is next on the hit list and to anybody on here who is currently renting.......the Tenancy Advice and Advocacy Service is going.....the Service set up to help tenants know their rights and protect them from unscrupulous landlords.
Oh and to those who still think public servants can be used as sacraficial lambs, there are a few private small businesses who could easily go under in the next couple of weeks when SDS gets dumped as they are suppliers to this particular agency.
Its called the domino effect and its only just started

I'm honestly desperately sorry for anyone losing their jobs but having watched QBuild at 'work' and seen their costings, the sooner the set up goes the better. It truly sucks for the guys on the ground trying to do their jobs though.

Re: Queensland public servants declare war on Newman
When there is a disaster - flood, cyclone, large storm etc - emergency services call on QBuild to source and provide beds, mattresses, tables, chairs etc for evacuation centres. We have spent years developing these processes - we go to QBuild, they work out what is needed and where and how to get it there, SDS then go through their list of suppliers and fulfill the request for assistance. FAST. You don't have time to negotiate in those circumstances, or to get quotes. They already know the costs, they have lists of approved suppliers and agreed deals. They also have deals set up to return the unused supplies, no questions asked, its just done, FAST. Example - 4000 mattresses for evac centres in the Innisfail area for TC Yasi - sourced and en route within 6 hours. 20,000 bottles of water for Gatton/Ipswich area evac centres during the flooding within 3 hours We (emergency services) do not have the staff to do that ourselves, thats why we have QBuild reps working with us.
Who is going to work with us next time? Who is going to have that list of suppliers and transportation companies, who will know the most cost effective ways of helping the community? We don't have enough staff to cover our own shifts now, never mind the associated provision of supplies.

OK, one issue with the hit to QBUild and SDS, as an example of how this is badly thought out -...

Re: Queensland public servants declare war on Newman
Didn't think you'd be aware of the other stuff, which kind of proves some of my earlier points. So much is organised by public servants, which the general public would never be aware of.
My only real knowledge of QBuild is through the disaster side of things - they also get involved with the repair and rebuilding of public assets - like schools after disasters - the side of things which I appreciate people don't usually see. Sadly, its only when an event happens and people expect things to be fixed that the majority of the population will turn round and wonder why nothing is happening. The last couple of weeks I've been reviewing claims for millions of dollars of Federal Government money, to pay for the stuff sourced by QBuild and SDS during Yasi and the Floods - even with my knowledge of their work its quite scary looking at the size of the bills and realising how much money was saved by having those establisghed networks and procedures in place.

And the knock on effect of the slash and burn approach?

You can't cut your way to greatness.
Ahh well, maybe the silver lining is that people will understand the coalition really doesn't have a clue.

Unfortunately most of us knew that before he got in. Too many people stuck their heads in the sand wanting to be shot of Bligh more than actually thinking about the alternative. How many years are we stuck with him?
