Re: Help with banking in Canada

I've used Transferwise to move money from my UK to Canadian account. Set one up before you move so you can be authenticated. The transfer arrived in my Canadian account by EFT in a day or so, no...

Re: Google home mini

Noticed also asking Alexa to play Radio X via Tune In now plays nothing. For Google, the way around it for Global Player stations like Classic FM is to download the "Global Player" app on your mobile...

Re: Renew British Passport While in Holidays in London!

Will shortly also need to renew my daughter's 1st passport from Canada. The domestic paper application form mentions needing all uncancelled passports (i.e. Canadian and UK) sent with the...

Re: Mobile Sim Card for Visitor to Calgary

There's also public mobile, another Telus variant like Koodo but completely online only. Note in Canada expect to pay $10 for the SIM card.

I have a spare Speakout SIM which runs on the Rogers...

Re: Car Insurance Cheaper in Canada?

So far I've only come across TD and Johnson who'd take into account UK no claims in ON. I tried to beat TD using Kanetix but on calling the top 5, the prices jumped as driving experience in the...

Re: Finding Canadian differences very frustrating - How do I fix this?

So much functionality removed and made to look like something a toddler could use. Their new market perhaps. Off to PCF or Tangerine in preparation.

Has anyone been upgraded to the new HSBC Canada website yet? Appears to be carbon copy of the UK redesign.

Re: Why is Indian food so bad in Toronto?

Many thanks for the link.

I tried Bukhara Grill in Bloor West Village expecting the usual bland offering but the Chicken Bhoona and Jalfrezi are the closest I've had to a Brit style Indian in...

Re: Why is Indian food so bad in Toronto?

+1

The interior consists of a counter and a display fridge so don't go there for the ambience.

The Karahi Chicken was on the spicyness pain threshold for me. She told me it was spicy but of...

Re: Why is Indian food so bad in Toronto?

I also worked my way through the Toronto restaurant scene on Tripadvisor and came to the conclusion the nicer the interior décor, the more dire the food.

Was not my experience in BC though, both...

Re: First child passport - overseas vs UK

Thanks BritInParis. According to the adviceline, the first sentence in Table B refers to submitting my passport (as I'm the BC) not the child's. I will attempt a colour photocopy. As UKPA issued the...

There's a lot of documentaries on there. Also the foreign (european) movie selection is not bad. If you want latest Hollywood blockbusters look elsewhere.

What do people think of the picture...

Re: ISA again

Double taxations agreements don't enter into the equation. You cannot open or contribute further to any ISAs when you're non-tax resident. If you want to try it be my guest

From the horse's...

No, yes, yes, no.

It's worldwide income. The tax-free ISA status is only for UK purposes.

Now my question.. if anyone knows an investment fund provider in the UK that will allow me to buy funds...

Re: Toronto - best ISP for unrestricted downloading ?

I use the green one in the list... Teksavvy. $41 for 200Gb download (unlimited is another $10). That's including the dry DSL charge and tax. Customer service is very good. Heard Acanac CS is not good...

Re: Cable TV/Internet/Phone

I'm using Teksavvy dry DSL for $41/month. So no fixed line required. Max speed here in Ontario is 5Mbps but the download limit is 200G, way better than Rogers.

For fixed phone I use vbuzzer VOIP....
